Re: Header specs

Brian, So based on your comments and others I've gotten, sounds like my current system is a bit on the long side. I'm curious about your comment on merged collectors. Should I not worry about them because I won't be able to optimize to them without a dyno? Thanks for the info and words of advice. Lee

Re: Header specs

Dave, I agree that Mike makes a nice set of headers. A good friend that runs a Caracal C picked up a used set this year so I've seen what he can do. I may check his prices but I'd be hard pressed to believe it's cheaper than I could build them for. I'm not suggesting I could build anything that perf...

Header specs

Hello all, Now that the days grow shorter and no races in the immediate future I turn to the winter project list. My headers are old, dented and rusting from the inside out. They are starting to get pin holes in some areas. It was suggested to me to try my hand at building my own primaries and buy a...

Re: On E-bay

I sent the guy a note. I'm pretty certain that is an early Agitator. Sure looks like the same chassis Chip Leonard ran with the under the nose cooling which is routed thru the boxed section of the frame.

Re: Master Cylinder Issues .... again

Dan, I'm not sure I follow. Is there an adapter that seals the top of the MC and then a suppose uses the vacuum to keep the reservoir topped off?

Showing my ignorance I guess.

Re: Master Cylinder Issues .... again

Steve, I'm going to VIR so Tim should be there as he usually is. Jim, I was the one who called you this morning about the 5/8 cylinder. Sorry I didn't get back to you but I left work to come try to work on this. I put a spare (slightly used) front seal in it and put it all back together and it now h...

Master Cylinder Issues .... again

Last winter or this spring I replaced one of my Girling master cylinders with a new Wilwood one. This was for the front brakes. Last night in one of my last steps getting ready for the weekend I began bleeding the rear brakes since I'd swapped trannies. After a couple cycles of bleeding the first re...

Frank,

Eric is in Daytona I believe. Competition Tires South (I think is the name). I ordered a set late last Thursday afternoon and got them via Fedex on Tues.

Goblins Go at VIR Oct 25-26

The current entry list is posted with 8 FV and 1 FST so far. Anyone else coming? I count 16 in the race group which is with FF, F5 and CFF. It's $185 until end of day on the 18th. It's a great last weekend of the year for most of us but it's also the first race in this area for the 2009 SARRC champi...

From http://www.mylaps.com, it was Shannon and then Fred followed by Harry Schneider. What happened with you Bill?

Anyone have recap of the race? It looks like Sandy, Russ and John had a heck of a finish based on the times.

John,

Your suggestion is certainly a reasonable approach. I just wanted to make sure everyone was aware that Butch Kummer had made the offer and it was real.

Re: Dbl SARRC at Barber 8/29-8/30

Randy,
How are you doing, friend? Long time no see.

I'd love to say I'm coming but I made Daytona my long haul for the year. Sadly that was a flop for me and the engine is completely apart on the bench.

I hope you guys have a great weekend at Barber.

Re: tranny spider gear

Good news, bad news.
Good news is that the tranny seemed to work fine.
Bad news is that it only got used one session as the engine locked up. Long trip for no racing.

Thanks for all the advice.

About 2miles worth of test runs up and down my street were a success. I've had about enough of turning wrenches this week.

Daytona here we come!!! (and the 33 SRFs that we'll be grouped with)

Re: SEDiv (SARRC) FV Drivers

To all, Last week I updated the tire info that I'd gathered in the above post. I don't think that updating/editing a post causes it to show like a new post has been added to the thread. This is all the info at this time. There are details that could be asked but they in turn will require some sense ...

Thanks folks. I know the call is mine but this gives me a little better feeling about pushing forward and trying to use it. If it sounds ok on the road this evening then I'm going racing. I'll post a follow up so the next person might have some more to go on if confronted with the same call. Thanks ...

tranny spider gear

I've got a question concerning a broken tooth on a spider gear. I've got a long box that I was going to use for Daytona this weekend. Since this is a new tranny (to me) I thought I'd drain whatever was in it and fill it. Finding a broken tooth on the front drain plug I've looked up thru the drain an...

Re: Tranny fluid options

Thanks guys. Gives me a couple of things to look for. I saw some Mobil 75/90 (I think) this evening and was curious if anyone used that. I think I'd heard the ATF usage also. I've had Midgets/Sprites for years and they only took motor oil but I've never heard of anyone using motor oil in a VW tranny...

Tranny fluid options

What are some popular choices for tranny oil for an FV? I've been using Redline Lightweight Shockproof but it's not the kind of thing that I can find locally and buying/shipping quarts as needed seems a bit crazy. Anybody use anything that is more commonly found? Don't read this as "what is che...
