Re: 2017 Runoffs
Steve, I helped do color commentary on the radio when the local stations covered Lime Rock for IMSA. - already in my resume. Even the best will make mistakes because they cannot read the mind of the drivers and or what is going on mechanically with a car. Either way it is best to error on the...

I with due respect to the announcers, I will be glad to fly out on my dime, and work for no compensation next year; to be the class representative in the booth (If I am not racing).

Re: Tranny undertray
Yes - we have some confusion here. Is this for SCCA racing or Hill Climb? From the GCR: 8. Frame A. The frame/chassis shall be constructed of steel tubing of a maximum diameter or width of 4 inches and be of a safe and suitable design. B. The driver’s feet shall not extend beyond the rear of the fro...

Re: Newbe solo questions
Jeremy, Sorry, I only check this every few days also. If you have a zero roll car, besides the static negative camber, you have a droop stop. The sudden oversteer could have been the car coming up on the droop stop. when you jack the car up in the air, the droop stop should hold the camber to negati...

Long Island Formula Vee Drivers
Long Island used to be a hot spot for Formula Vee. There were dozens of drivers but after Bridgehampton closed, they all seemed to go away. Is there anyone from Long Island following this board? From tip to tip there are about 8 MILLION people there, I cannot believe that someone is not interested i...

Okay, the new committee has been quiet for a while, we need to know what is going on even if it just to say hello, we are still out here.

Tim,
Have you posted this over at Apex Speed?
http://www.apexspeed.com
Also drop Dietmar a line - he may know someone looking for a project like this. http://www.quixoteracing.com/index.htm
If you were on the East Coast it would be gone in a heartbeat.

Re: Tires - 2017 Hoosiers
This is for anyone who has bought tires in 2017.
Has any changes been made at all to the 55 compound? How about price?
I was hoping we could "pre-buy" the spec tires, even if not in final form so we could put some miles on them in 2017.

Nick,
Did we get any interest at the show?
If soi we need to pass the names to someone local to them so we can follow up.
I will e-mail Jeff to see what we can do.

Jeremy Sorry, not a lot of people are watching this site - many have gone over to Apex Speed. We need to keep this forum active for various reasons. I may be missing it, but are you running a zero roll or a Z bar car? Oversteer "usually" means the rear is too stiff or is jacking. You can u...

I am putting out a series of ideas for FV in order to get participant input. I have been posting them over at Apex Speed but did not want to leave this group out. From now on they will be posted simultaneously. You do not have to post on both boards, but I may summarize ideas on both. Read the guide...

3nd of a Series Okay we have just had a successful event (SCCA Runoffs) where we established our class as the largest formula class there, and attracted new blood from karting, one of whom is the son of a Indy 500 winner. Re: Spec Tire
Matt, As Brian said, the process has just started. If it works like the FF Spec tire, the SCCA will send out Request For Proposal, (but if anyone has seen the final requirements, I think we would like to see it) and depending upon who responds, then they do testing. It is very possible it will be in...

Re: Runoffs Qualifying
There is always room for field fillers - whether you call the back-markers or drivers just getting experience - very few start off on the front row. Theoretically, if you are 3rd in your division you could be no better than 20th in the country, - or you could be 3rd - depends on your competition. Th...

Just to make sure the facts are the facts I spoke to Jeff Speers at Hoosier on Tuesday. I had e-mailed him first outlining some discussion points. Re: Just don't get it!
Hoosier is a relatively small company, thus somewhat flexible. But does anyone really think they are willing to make a Radial for FV that will last a season? Thus, selling a couple hundred tires a year? (if that.) We are lucky they continue to sell the existing tires at quantities in the low thousa...

Re: Just don't get it!
John, Goodyear lists FV tires in their catalog, but last year they had a production problem and it may have carried over to this year - someone can chime in with a official statement. Here is the problem - If Hoosier is the last man standing by default, and Hoosier agrees to make a longer lasting ti...

Re: Just don't get it!
Steve, I am going to disagree a little. I hope the tires today are better than they were in the past. I have lived through tire wars - soft compounds and narrow tires where you did throw away a set of tires a weekend. You literally burned them up. With a spec tire or a single manufacturer, there is ...

Re: Just don't get it!
Actually, I think it's the opposite. The surveys often only capture input from those that respond, which tend to be a minority, like those who frequent the forums. The numbers who post here are very small, and represent a minority - a vocal minority, but still a minority. Most forums or groups requ...

Re: Just don't get it!
If we are back to one tire manufacturer, then they should suspend development which should reduce the cost of the tires. (I can dream, right?) Hoosier has said they will do a run of hard compound tires (say R60) if enough people commit (I.e. money) The last time I spoke to them (a while back) the mi...
