Re: Rewrite of Solo Vee Rules
I hope all the Solo Vee folks have looked at the latest FastTracks. There is a proposal that would move the Vee to C/Mod plus allow for larger valve heads and dual carburetors. If you feel this is a good...or bad proposal, please write the Modified Advisory Committee. Your input is needed. cheers, M...

Re: Rewrite of Solo Vee Rules
A couple of comments in response to others... The idea behind the back to basics (Formula Vee) is there are more of these cars than Solo Vees. I totally understand the reluctance to take off expensive modifications to get back to the road race cars, but moving to "stock" Formula Vees was a...

Re: Rewrite of Solo Vee Rules
Here's a new thought...have you all (current Solo Vee owners) considered moving the cars back to (road race) Formula Vees and try to get more cars to join you. With no modifications required to the Formula Vee inorder to be competitive, you might be able to fill a class.
Just a thought,
Mike

Re: Rewrite of Solo Vee Rules
The Modified Advisory Committee is struggling with the requests made by some of the Solo Vee folks. Requests have been made to move to C/Mod, allow more horsepower (compression, heads, dual carburetors), start a new class... I'd like to know what the "active" Solo Vee folks think. I'm repr...

Rewrite of Solo Vee Rules
I have completed a first-pass rewrite of the Solo Vee rules and I would like others to take a look at them to see what I've missed, should not have changed or eliminated, and/or what's confusing. I tried to upload the Word file but this site would not let me. So, if you'd like to take a look at the ...

Re: 2011 Rule Change
I am a member of the MAC (Modified Advisory Committee) and am wondering: how would you like the new rule to read? Shall we specify valve cover gaskets as well as bolt on valve covers?
thanks for your input,

Why Is the F5 Faster
I'm having a discussion with a friend about the reason the F5 has become so much faster than the "new" Solo Vee. We agreed the F5 has an advantage due to its narrower track width and there is an advantage on some courses when the Vee has to shift gears while an F5 doesn't. But, we weren't ...

Single Carburetor--Many Venturi's
I just read the latest Fast Track. I don't have an opinion regarding the Legends Cars (yet), but I'm interested in everyone's reaction to the single carburetor rule change. As I read the rule, the SEB is proposing doing away with the two-barrel carb. restriction. Now, the 1915 cc crowd can run a fou...
Re: Nationals
Vern, I'd like to hear your impression of the F500's. I appreciate your representing the Vee crowd and plan to attend next year. But, I'd like to know, with the "more open courses", why the F500's are still so fast relative to the Vees. Do you think it's their narrow track, acceleration, l...

Re: Nationals
ahh, if we get 25 Vees at Nationals, we probably are in a position to ask for our own class. When was there ever 25 Vees at Nationals? And, in the conversations I've had with my two friends and Art (not that you're not a friend...maybe someday we should meet  ), I've never heard anyone say they...
Re: Nationals
Art, I'm in total agreement with your comments regarding a separate class for Vees. I don't think it makes sense (and I realize I'm alienating myself from the many of the Vee owners). The way the F/Mod class was created was by getting a lot of cars to Nationals and demonstrating the need for a separ...
Re: Nationals
Art, I've been discussing Vee's vs. F5/440's with Sheldon, not Chuck. The prevailing thinking is: let's wait until a nationally competitive driver in a fully preped Vee competes at Nationals (and National Tours) before we conclude the Vee is not competitive. My assertion is that there are only two d...
Nationals
I've been discussing the competiveness of the Vee vs. the F5/F440s with a friend on the MAC. He believes moving Nationals to Lincoln will show the Vee more competitive than it was at HPT. I replied the Vee crowd is no longer competing at National events and we won't have the opportunity to see a hea...

Re: Front Suspension Setups
Before changing your front suspension, you might try putting a hard rubber stopper inside your front shocks. I had some Koni inserts that I placed inside my shocks and the front suspension no longer bottoms out. The result is I have a soft front suspension which generates nice turn in and I also hav...

Re: Rules changes???
Johnny,
I just went to the SCCA home page and logged in. I then did a search for the solo rules and found all the information about the Solo Vee spec.'s. I don't know if you can down load them from there, but you can read them.
Hope I'm answering your question,
Mike

Re: Aluminum Case
Thanks to all for the input and advice. My mechanic told me aluminum cases are stronger and the same weight as magnesium cases. It is good to get better information. As to the failure, yes I found a "chunk" of metal in the sump. After examining the case from the bottom we found it came off...

Aluminum Case
I just discovered I have a case failure...metal in the bottom of the deep sump. I thought aluminum cases were legal as a replacement. The rules reads, "aftermarket magnesium engine cases may also be substituted". Does this mean aluminum cases are OK or the replacement case halves must be m...

Johnny,
What this talk about Alaska. You can't go to Nationals and re-establish the Vee as a contender from Alaska. This sounds all wrong.

Re: Solo Vee alignment
My Vee uses a Z-bar, but I don't think that makes a big difference on front camber. I used to set the front camber to "all I could get" but got some advice that said 1.5 degrees is correct. My pyrometer agreed and that's all I run now. I run 5 degrees of castor...which allows me to run les...

Re: Dual Carbs on a 1600 (again)
Scott, I did the 1915 "thing". I found a noticable improvement in low end torque and overall acceleration. I'd like to hear from someone who did the dual carb "thing". From the looks of the Nationals results (and assuming Bob made a compression change to 10:1 as well as changing ...
Re: Nationals
To all, I agree with Johnny's point about the SEB's willingness to create a new Vee class. I don't think it's going to happen for the reasons Johnny states. When we had fully prepares 1600 cc based cars, last year, it became obvious to the MAC and the SEB we were not competitive. Using only the rule...
Re: Nationals
Vern, With only three Vee's at Nationals, I think we'll have a hard time convincing the SEB that they should combine the Fords and the F5's and create a Vee only class. The last I talked with Chuck Voboril he felt a Vee, prepared to the new rules, could compete with the F5's. I just want to make sur...
Nationals
The two Vees at Nationals are struggling against the F500/F440 crowd. Does anyone know what modifications Bob or Vern have made to their cars, per the new rules. Are they fighting with a fully prepared car or one similar to last year's development?
Curious,
Mike
