Re: Formula Vee Open Trailer

I tow a heavier trailer with a 4 cylinder 1989 Volvo wagon :) I'd say that can be towed by just about anything!

I would buy that trailer today if you were in BC!

Re: Lithium Ferrous Batteries.

I was reading about speedcell's last night but can't remember which type of lithium they are. For those of you that run full data loggers and everything, what's the lowest AH rating you are willing to go with? I have no weight problems (I need to add weight somehow.. ) but have limited room to put a...

Re: Part number for front/rear wheel cylinders

There are several companies that provide that service and I use it a lot! Sucks to have to cross the border to pick up small packages, but I use it all the time for bigger/heavier stuff. :)

Re: Part number for front/rear wheel cylinders

As far as shipping as customs goes.. Typically the Canadian customs agency will charge HST (or whatever other taxes are applicable to your province!) on items above a certain amount. This however, depends greatly on who picks up the package and how good his morning has been so far. I've had to pay t...

Re: Part number for front/rear wheel cylinders

The Cip1 guys are sort of local to us in BC and help out with our annual FV race, they are good people :) If you need to call, Kris (I'm sure all the other guys are too, but I usually deal with him!) is very knowledgeable. They deal a lot with the local FV crowd and will usually know what we run on ...

Unless the club figured that instead of lower entry fees, they'd just rather charge the same but have higher profits?

Re: Rationals scheduled in the West

Thanks Bill and Matt for clarifying a couple things I had doubts on. I was starting to get the impression that National drivers were by definition the best of the best and had strict licensing requirements!

aaaah, so that's why you guys don't like SRF's! We don't have any of those up here so it took me a while to figure out why the hell that "sports racer" was so slow.

Re: Rationals scheduled in the West

So is this a result of low national attendance? What's the average Vee field at a west coast national? I understand that it may be frustrating to get stuck behind a slower regional driver in another class (you should be able to clear any slower vees without much work, I know I wouldn't see you guys ...

Bruce - thanks for the super detailed instructions. Dummy me really needs all the detail I can get!

I have some VW books coming soon, will add the haynes in there.. I guess I keep forgetting that a lot of this stuff applies to "normal" street driven beetles too :)

Re: Alignment tips..

The one thing (well.. figure of speech there, I have trouble with just about everything haha..) I have trouble with in my front end is making sure it's not binding. It was sticking quite a bit (I would jump on the front end and it wouldn't rebound, or I'd lift it up by hand and it would stay there) ...

I'd go with the lithium battery HD one too.. AAA's are getting expensive! ;) From what I heard, the HD cameras are better in many ways, not just resolution wise..

Re: Alignment tips..

ah yes, good call on measuring against the beam!

If I had nothing else to do, I'm sure I could come up with some very simple platforms that I could level up, but I don't think I'll get around to that this winter..

Re: Alignment tips..

A quick question.. I'm guessing that a big percentage of FV drivers aren't spending thousands on setup platforms and scales, etc.. I moved my car from a nice new-ish shop with flat-ish floors, to my 40 year old garage with a big crack right down the middle! Any cheap clever ways of making sure all t...

Re: Air compressor & generators

When I rode my bmx bike a bit more than I do now, I pumped the tires up to 100psi, using a good floor pump it's no big deal. My road bike tires were pumped up to 120psi, that was a bit more work, but still doable :D More than that and I could see most bicycle pumps just blowing up  Maybe I can ...

Re: Air compressor & generators

Hey don't shoot the messenger :) I found a thread on some 4x4 website about using scuba tanks as air supply for tools/tires and the same question about refilling popped up. Someone mentioned refilling the tanks at his local fire station in Alberta, so who knows. Might not be as common place as he tr...

Re: Air compressor & generators

Looks like scuba shops fill them up for $2-5.. Will they still do it after the fittings have obviously been modified?

Also just read somewhere that some fire stations will refill them as well..?

Re: Air compressor & generators

I'd consider a generator to run the battery charger but it would really have to be quite quiet. I borrowed one at the last race of the season and did not make any friends in a 3 car radius of my paddock spot

Re: Air compressor & generators

 I sure hope not! haha..

I also use a 12v compressor, one of the cheap ones I bought at Canadian Tire. Surprisingly, the digital pressure gauge is spot on, matches my big bucks tire pressure gauge to a tee.

Re: Brake shoe break-in

I had the same problem (hitting the brakes as hard as I could and not slowing down all that much - front wheels weren't locking up no matter what) on my last race weekend - after messing around with the brake pedal and getting the balance bar setup wrong. My plan is to do exactly what Dietmar recomm...

Re: Startting from Scratch - FV or FST?

It helps to properly set your set your brakes, advantage those with experience and knowledge. Completely agree, you are totally right.. It's just that 26 year old me (and most other 20 somethings I know..) have never had to deal with drum brakes and find it a chore rather than a skill. Of course I ...
