Re: Official FV Discussion: SCCA Runoffs 2010

Argh I'm so sorry I missed the race now! 7.30 was a bit to early for me on a Sunday, but man that would have been worth it.

Congrats to Rick Shields :)

Re: SCCA Runoffs Speedcast?

They are streamed live, so should be 9.30am on Sunday (Road America time, which seems to be 3 hours ahead of PST, so.. whatever that is?! Sorry, sort of new to this side of the world haha)

If I understand it correctly, most Vee's in Southern California are racing with VARA :)

That's it, first qualifying session is done.. It was fun to nerd out and follow live timing haha. Some great times for the first session out, but I guess no real surprise at the top :)

Re: Official FV Discussion: SCCA Runoffs 2010

Good luck to everyone, can't wait to see what happens! I'm very excited to see how Tommy does, is he officially the youngest FV driver at the runoffs? He has to be one of the youngest drivers ever at the runoffs in any class..

Thanks for the update Michael!

Re: Intermediate tires

I'd rather it be dry, but when you drive somewhere like BC where 2 or 3 out of every 6 races are wet races, you kinda have to get out there and try to enjoy the rain :) That said, Brian (Harding) makes a bunch of good points, and personally - when it starts raining, I don't care anymore, I'm just ha...

Pacific Raceways, Kent WA, 25-26 September

This should be fun.. It's an ICSCC event, and for whatever random reason, all of us in BC decided to travel down for that weekend. We're hoping the WA and OR guys can join us and make a big grid. I realize it's the same weekend as the runoffs, but I can almost guarantee this will be more fun  h...

Re: Needle Bearing Front Beam Spacers

Are these the ones that would let you tighten up the sway bar without binding (sorry, I don't really know the name of that much stuff hehe..)? If so, I've heard good things about the ones made by someone else, not sure if they'd be any different from these SR ones..

Re: Link pin shims with angled bushings

good point :) Still, if anything, a solution for the bendy bendy turkey legs might make our setups easier and more predictable.. What if instead of starting at -1.8 degrees and ending up at god knows what under load, we start up at god knows what and stay there? Wouldn't that be a good thing? (waiti...

Re: Link pin shims with angled bushings

Not saying that's the case, but wouldn't current rear suspension and tire setups also be limited by and based on available front grip? If a new part or set of parts became available that increased front grip levels in such a miraculous way, I would think a lot of effort would be placed by the class ...

Re: Xponder for sale

Thanks for posting.. :) I'm trying to buy it, but he set restrictions on who can bid on it based on primary address. So even though I have a US shipping address, I need to wait until he clears me to bid argh.. Still, by the time I buy a charger for $50, it'll have cost me $300 for a battery powered ...

Re: Link pin shims with angled bushings

The way I understood it, is that if you're using the full grip out tires give us, your suspension will be going all out of shape anyway, whichever static camber setting you use.. And that if this ain't happening, you're not going fast enough  Great thread though, this explains why my front susp...

Re: Greying of the class

Brian - the FV lap record at Mission Raceway. At that time, it was 1.20.6 I believe, I did a 1.21.8.. A couple races later Scott Arthur and Bob Posner were both into the 1.19's, which I won't get to anytime soon, that's for sure. Granted this is local, regional racing, but either way, we're talking ...

Re: Greying of the class

Well I think the fact they're based on fairly "ancient" technology and parts isn't very appealing to most younger drivers.. And the lack of power. Most "kids" nowadays (hey, I'm a kid!) are addicted to thrills, everything is fast paced in our lives. Unless you're attracted to the...

Re: Greying of the class

Ah.. I learned that lesson very quickly - my second race, actually. I was catching up to the car in front, and her engine cover snapped in half on the main straight. I moved over to the right and kept looking at the flapping piece of fiberglass, pointing at it so the corner workers would see it. By ...

If you're not running anywhere close to "the edge", then I can understand why you would get bored. I see your point, it's a good one :) I guess being new to driving Vees and racing in general, I find it a lot more exciting and stimulating to chase someone and trying to catch/keep up, than...

Re: What is a Track Day?

A track day is sort of like a test and tune day - open lapping sessions, 20 minutes or so, alternating between various groups. You need to check with whoever is organizing the track day to see what sort of cars are allowed. Most track days do not allow open wheelers, unless they've got enough cars t...
