Re: Ride Height Adjusters
Don't forget you can affect the front ride height by adjusting the angle of the beam (caster).

Re: Flywheel Seal - Major leak, owner prepexed!!
The runout may be true, but if it was turned undersize, it may be too small. Perhaps pull the flywheel, and fit the seal on the end to check for proper contact. You are gonna pull the flywheel to increase the end play aren't you??

Re: Flywheel Seal - Major leak, owner prepexed!!
If the BACK of the flywheel is oily, it's the crank/flywheel seal. If the flywheel is dry, it's the seal in the case.

Re: Flywheel Seal - Major leak, owner prepexed!!
Occasionally you'll get a leak through the end of the crank where it mates the flywheel. Try putting the paper/steel shim gasket there. You do need more end play!! The flywheel was tightened to 300 ft.lbs. or so, wasn't it? The stock 240 isn't enough.

Re: Low turnouts
I sold my vee in the 80's, and crewed on my friends vee until he sold it recently. We had a great run, great car, Caracal C with elite body, several regional championships, all with NO professional help. History now. Reason, too many doorslammers, and not enough track time. SCCA is all about money, ...

Re: history lesson
Had a friend in Savannah in the '70's who had a pivoting beam rear suspension. Conventional coil-overs bolted to a beam that pivoted on a bigass bolt. Seemed to work ok for him, on a regional level.

Re: Engine ID/ oil pressure problems
Tip clearance of the gears to the housing is critical in a Vee. Ever really look at how the pump works? The meshing between the gears is NOT where the oil is pumped..it is actually carried around the periphery of the gears! The meshing keeps the oil from returning to the pickup side. Excessive tip c...

Re: Beach 5c restoration. Where to start?
Been a few years, but I stripped my 5C a couple times. That's an ANCIENT 40 horse case, btw. First is to get the frame straight and rebraced. You should fit, but you'll be sitting upright. The fuel tank was under the seat. Battery was in front of the beam. Beach had a fabricated pedal arrangement. T...

Re: Fan housing question.
Aren't the 1200 fan shrouds narrower (across the engine) than the 1600's? I didn't think they were interchangeable? Dietmar?

Re: How Much oil?
OK..there IS more to the story as Stevan pointed out. What we did, check and fill the engine with the oil hot as stated, at idle. Without running the engine, the next day check the level COLD. It will be way above the Full mark. File a mark on the dipstick at this level. This way, you will know COLD...

Re: "Beach Racing Cars" shirts, stickers, and more!
I raced a 5c for years. Gene Beach passed away about a year ago. Henry Grady, who was partners with Gene Beach in the BeGra, a D sports? racer, has a toybox not far from me.

Re: Ceramic coating pistons
Skirt clearance isn't as important as ring land clearance, and those heavy rings will beat up the ring lands first. Coating won't help this. Save your money and don't worry about coating the pistons with anything.

Re: Crankcase ventilation
If you're using dykes rings that seal with combustion pressure, closing the throttle collapses the rings and creates a higher pressure in the crankcase than in the cylinder, sucking oil up past the rings. ALL engines will puff a little smoke when the throttle is closed. Vee engines have thick rings ...

The debate about Roebling has gone on for a couple decades. Lap times are pretty much the same, but a short box gets you to the FINISH line first!

Re: 6 or 12
Keep the 6 volt starter and the 12 volt battery. I remember the old grunt start with 6 volt stuff. Even old boats had a series/parallel switch to crank a 6 volt system with 12 volts. "Don't fix it if it ain;t broke!"

True enough. Pooler, and Bloomingdale just west of it, are indeed speed traps, even on the interstate (I-16)
