Re: Discs AGAIN
The real downside seems to be the weight of the 4 bolt wheels. Now you are just regurgitating truisms. While lighter wheels are in fact a benefit, it is not something that you will be able to measure on the clock or with a data system. This is something that only people in F1, etc. are capable of e...

Re: Discs AGAIN
I am pretty sure Andy Pastore had something figured out for the front using 4 bolt wheels. He had a request in to the CRB to allow 4 bolt wheels. Search Apex Speed.
The main issue is that there is nothing available for the rear that meets the rear track spec.

Re: Discs AGAIN
1) I cannot measure right now, but when using 4.5" wheels I have always been very close to the max track. Never any thought about how to get out to the limit.
2) GCR Appendix G does a very good job specifying how to measure track.

Yes, but the 4.5" wheels only add .5" total to the front track.

Steve's Runoff's 2019
Steve So how was this years Runoff event for you? Was the track bad for the race compared to how it was for Qual? Would you say this was out of character for VIR? You were in a Vortech, how did/does it compare to the car you used for many decades? Is there a noticeable difference in 'feel' if they a...

Re: What type of formula car?
That does not answer my question. The chassis currently looks like a piece of poorly engineered junk. Was this the layout of the chassis when it was winning races?
Just interested in how primitive the first FSV's were.

Did this car/chassis look this primitive when it was new or has it just been mutilated with modifications?

Dyno results indicate that inexpensive Autolites are just as good as the most expensive plugs you can find. Use standard heat range.

Why does it matter what was said during the broadcast? Was anyone really listening? Dorsey has been around SCCA for a long time. His knowledge of the class is an accurate measurement of what the general road racing population cares to know about Formula Vee. It is time to accept that we are really n...

Re: Disc brakes
I believe the goal is a well designed race setup. Calipers and discs from say Wilwood. The caliper weight is possible with $100 Wilwood calipers. We need more information about where the hubs are going to come from. I would imagine the design is for billet CNC units. These hubs must be heavy as ther...

Re: April 2017 Committee News
Data point: I heard that a set of spec tires first used July 2016 at a Majors event were tested again at a NH Regional just recently. The one year old 'spec tires' had 7-8 heat cycles were compared to a competitor that was using new Hoosiers. The spec tires were almost the equal of the new tires. Th...

Hoosier was the only company to respond to the RFP. American racers are not being considered or evaluated. The FV Committee would like to see further durability tests. Regardless.. the decision will be made this fall regardless if further testing is done or not. Contact the FV Committee members to g...

Re: FV future #3 Transmission
How many competitors actually change gearboxes for different tracks? Is it up to the rules to dictate where you spend your prep time? As has been stated many times before.... any restriction to gear ratios is just going to create additional development of engines and exhaust systems to make up for t...

These are just discussion points....unless you think you can buy your way to wins, which is against the spirit and rules of FV The current FV rule set has was never developed to satisfy the above statement. Preventing the rich from buying races is an admirable goal but it is going to take a differe...

Re: Engine oil Viscosity
I can guarantee if I put a vee engine with .0015 run out in the case, you have well over a 50/50 chance of seizing the rear main bearing. Thicker oil, and to a lessor extent, synthetic oil can minimize but not really change the outcome. What are you talking about? What does this have to do with usi...

Re: Engine oil Viscosity
Temperature is absolutely relevant! The actual viscosity of a given specification of oil is determined by the temperature it is operating at. Generally speaking when you increase the temperature 30 deg F... the grade changes by 10 from say 40w to 30w. Generally speaking when you lower the viscosity ...

Same odd CCS babble.... All talk but no solutions that can be sold the the majority of FV competitors. A political solution. Why is the CCS not using a spec manifold? You guys could not afford the $350 spec manifold if it was available. That is implied by the way you have been describing yourselves....
