Re: More "Last words in passing" about karting/fv
What was the promise that fv provided that pulled you from karting? I actually got into karts specifically to build driving skills to go car racing. I started very late (42 years old before I actually drove a car on a real race track). I also think of purpose built race cars as the only real race c...

Last words in passing
The car, trailer and spares rolled out of the driveway Saturday on its way to its new home in Vermont, and the tow rig is now traded off for a more civil daily ride. I wish to offer a few parting words if you don't mind: First, I'd like to say thanks to everyone who helped us go racing the Vee. Bob ...

Re: Run-Offs Rooms
Book your rooms as early as you can. The area suffers a real issue of competing interest between family vacations, business use, and the race track activities, and can be very hard to get reservations if you wait too long. Also look at Green Bay, Appleton, and Milwaukee. A little further to drive, b...

Re: Run-offs camping
There are also many camp sites around the facility with a wide range of facilities. However, if you wait past April to get your reservations, you will likely not have any luck. Those who know the area book very early, and since it is somewhat remote of any major metro area, and the runoffs will happ...

Re: Sort of a poll
I plan to retire from racing effective this year. The business environment I work within is undergoing a dramatic change in technology that is creating an opportunity I would be an idiot to pass up since it is the only area moving at all right now. While not everyone saw it, I've been fighting this ...

Re: FV frame design
Very true Kevin, I don't ever recall seeing a vee break in half and the drivers legs hanging out. A simple increase in minimum weight in NHRA could solve many of their problems but the mentality is very different over there. Why else would someone breath all that fuel and asbestos? Ever see how bla...

Re: FV frame design
Do you really want to get into the war between BME (the normalizer) and McKinney (the heat treater), and the soap opera the NHRA has been for decades? Just like FV cars, very little FEA work has been done on those cars, with the majority of designs evolving from garage floor look-see engineering. Th...

Re: Bulb for Trouble Light
There is a small starter element in the base of all fluorescent lamps that will fail if the lamp is banged around. Most CFLs are simply not suitable for rough service. LEDs are far better for shop light use. I'd personally toss the incandescent stuff and replace it with an LED shop light. Price is r...

Sachs clutch holder clips
If you do your own clutch work, here's an interesting lesson to keep in the notebook. The new replacement pressure plates, 3 finger/srping type from Sachs, have three "U" shaped clips that hold the fingers down. This is cool, as it makes putting the pressure plate on easier, since the clut...

I have just send the following note to each of the project contributors: "It is with regret that I admit defeat in my attempt to assemble a promotional video for Formula Vee racing. Between competing business demands on available time, and the difficulty experienced in converting video at an ac...

Re: trailing or leading arm rear suspension?
In my limited experience, the biggest difference I have noted is how the car behaves under braking and acceleration - while cornering seems to be the same either way. With the trailing arm (pivot at the front) braking torque is transferred to the middle of the car, pressing down at roughly the CG. T...
