Re: Startting from Scratch - FV or FST?
cost me a decent starting spot at my last race at NHMS because i forgot to adjust my front brakes... backed them all the way off to get the drums off and on to check everything up front... imagine my surprise coming into turn 3 and having no brakes!

Re: Startting from Scratch - FV or FST?
Mark, That's a pretty romantic image of every SCCA driver sifting through the GCR for a gray area and then working diligently in his garage to find the next "unfair advantage", but that is hardly the reality. (Quite frankly, from the number of questions people ask here that are easily ans...

Re: A Mono Shock rotary damper system...
i would imagine though, if it's speed-sensitive suspension, then it is in effect active. just outside-force controlled rather than computer or manual control... the idea would be to make the rear slip a bit more to in effect get the car more neutral, and i'm sure it's mathematically possible to chan...

Re: A Mono Shock rotary damper system...
that rear suspension on the redbull car is actually not a 3-spring system so much as a 3-dampener system. something i've been interested in the concept of on a formula vee for a few years now, as the problem with roll resistance on a formula vee is weight jacking, and the Z-bar was what appeared to ...

Re: Rear Roll Resistance Never Needed
i fail to see where this question has gone... i think it better to either have a computer model or a proof of concept car that you can quick change design elements to find the solutions to these questions. example being if you think you need more camber than a linkpin front suspension will give you,...

Re: Front beam bump stop removal
i'm of the belief the horn removal is more for aero than for weight savings, and with a D13, i see no reason to bother putting the effort into removing them unless you are that 2-4lbs overweight or have narrowed the chassis/body significantly... the horns do not limit suspension compression, as the ...

i ran 93 pump gas at NHMS this past weekend without and problems with dieseling or anything fuel related. however heim joints seemed to have it out for me... just drained the cell when I got home since it was E10 pump gas speaking of which, is harry white on this forum? i'd like to see the in-car vi...

well, i suppose my point would be that if they qualified under the rules that they're one of the top X% drivers in the nation, would they not be fast enough that a rule like that would be a moot point?

i'm very much more in favor of brian's idea just above .also, i kinda think the 120% to 115% of pole time is a little silly, unless they're having issues with lapped traffic in other classes causing unsafe conditions.

i've only ever run FV as a road racing car, but data acquisition says 1.5 G on our 4.5-5.5" wide tires seems to be about normal. i'm guessing you should be able to do just as well if not better with whatever slicks you run at solo.

we made 3/8" solid steel tubes on our lathe (purchased at Pratt and Whitney auction), that way the drill hole and threads were perfectly straight, or at least close enough to straight that we couldn't tell something's amiss

i'm curious to see if the inside tire spinning could be resolved with chassis setup, as i have the same problem with my completely stock MGB, and i don't care to move up a class over a $5000 LSD.

At least we're not getting into nitro in the engine oil thing like other classes. An engine with a PCV system can duct nitro or other additives, out of the oil vapors and into the intake manifold. Think SRF, SS, Spec Maita etc. well, i'd imagine you'd need to change the oil every session for...

never quite understood though, we have that rule for puncture safety... but in a lot of cases we run with fords which have relatively sharp attenuators that could possibly puncture a vee.

to touch on this one a little bit, i actually thought long and hard about the role that such a damper would use on the car. I came to the conclusion that this actually optimizes the balance of the car. At least my car, if not all vees, will push in slow corners and be loose in fast corners. in this ...

Re: Soft Suspensions
which is kinda what i was getting at, as far as i'm aware, the car's handling characteristics are the same regardless of the level of grip, it just happens to occur either at faster or slower speeds, so what holds true in the rain should theoretically hold true in the dry as well, yes?

Re: Soft Suspensions
here's a question. what is it about a softer suspension that makes it better in the rain? even on a very smooth racetrack?
