Yep, all I can say about that schedule is, "Thank god I live 40 minutes from the track!"

Re: Oil temp warning light with oil temp gauge
I had an oil temp light in a car that I ran a data logger in that had four programmable LED lights. Pretty easy to do with an AIM or similar system as long as you are already logging the temp. It wouldn't be that hard to wire one in with an analog temp gauge either. But the only time mine ever becam...

Re: Minimum Weight Survey
I'm curious what an average weight is for the various popular chassis, minus the variables of driver and fuel. My Citation has an aluminum floor and very little extraneous equipment and weighs around 850 with fuel. With me in it (205) I'm usually at 1050-1060 post race. I could fill it with less fue...

Re: My letter about the FV spec intake
It seems like a lot of people are looking at this as an either/or proposition, as in either tighten the existing manifold rules or proceed towards a "spec" intake. But ever since the Runoffs meeting, I've been in favor of a two-pronged approach. First, tighten the existing rules to stem fu...

Re: My letter about the FV spec intake
As a car and engine builder, I say the driver is just one part of the puzzle. My point is what definition of racing gets the most competitors for FV? Assuming that one wants to be competitive, what is attractive about a class that focuses on the driver when you don't have any driving talent? I thin...

Re: My letter about the FV spec intake
Most of these questions and concerns would become moot if the concept of a spec manifold was changed to an alternate manifold. Make it as good as or a hair better than the curent crop of state of the art manifolds and sell it for $450. Buy as many spares as you want. Don't buy anything if you don't ...

Hard to say for sure without a photo, but if it's an aluminum tube about 1 inch OD and 3-4 inches long with the light at one end, it could be from SR Racing. Paging Jim???

Jim, as I said, I think the club in actual fact really does operate like that, it's just that it has to be careful to maintain the appearance of being a "democratic" membership-driven organization in certain respects. It sounds like you are suggesting a stronger FV advisory committee, whic...

Re: January meeting
Easy Greg- You're taking my comment to the extreme. But do you honestly think that someone who happens to have a FV in his garage that he "might" take it out and race it a time or two should have equal control over the direction of the class as someone who is actively racing?? You're impl...

Re: January meeting
Does this manifold have to be considered only as a "spec" part? What about allowing it as an "alternate" part, with specifications that place it's performance equal to the best of the current crop of massaged VW manifolds? Other than those who have already bought a killer $1500 m...

Re: Runoffs 2010
The limit on track per the regs is 25 cars per mile, plus a percent overage with steward's approval. IIRC, it's 10 percent. I know the limit was reached last year in a couple of the run groups for the FF 40th anniversary. I think it was 110 or 112 cars. Probably only SRF is capable of approaching th...

Re: Runoffs Qualification Changes (SportsCar Feb '10)
Eventually, I see the two levels in SCCA merging. Probably a separate discussion, but I really can't see how the split makes any sense in the current financial and participation reality of amateur racing. In this era of rising costs and declining participation, the regions should be doing everythin...

Re: Runoffs Qualification Changes (SportsCar Feb '10)
Maybe SCCA could add to the top or at least the middle of the field if they revised the basic formula of the Runoffs. The current drawn-out schedule is a turn off to many potential entrants. Shortening up the qualifying and adding more actual racing, like heat races to determine final grid position,...

Check this out: http://www.pegasusautoracing.com/bigpicture2.asp?RecID=5603 The one car that can be seen in that photo happens to be mine, which didn't do ME any good, because I couldn't see anybody's rain light ahead of me. It's shocking that SCCA allows a 59 cent marker light to satisfy the rule f...

Re: More novice questions....
The only thing I would add is that some brands of nomex/carbon-X socks are thicker than others. I have a pair of carbon-X socks that are similar to old-school tube socks in size and thickness. Plus I always wear mine over regular cotton socks, which adds bulk.

Re: Yet Another Newbee question
The submarine straps on a six-point formula-style harness should be bolted to the same fixed point as the lap belts on each side so they wrap under your thigh. They bolt through the side framerails on my Citation, not to the floor pan.

Re: November meeting
I made the assumption that the request for manifold dimensions was aimed at those who have the newer "state-of-the-art" manifolds with oversize tubing in the bend area that might be questionable if a new rule is implemented. I'd be willing to measure my manifold, but I know it fits well wi...

Re: Electronic Ignition
Many years ago (late 60's) when I was with IBM we were doing some projects with Chrysler on electronic ignitions (archaic computer control, dwell extension, etc.). All the engineers knew that this was a cost and maintenance issue. There was no PEAK HP to be gained with normal street engines. The in...

Re: Electronic Ignition
Dwell depends on the unit, at least for the Pertronix. There are two types. There is a dwell graph for the Ignitor II here: http://www.pertronix.com/prod/ig/ignitor2/default.aspx They don't say what the dwell is for the standard, but you could hook up a dwell meter. We all still have one of those, r...

Re: WTB - PI S/2 Transmitting Beacon
Probably so they can sell you another expensive beacon when you leave yours at the track! I didn't know that about some of the other systems; I've been using various AIM systems for a few years and I rarely ever have to put out a beacon, but that would also complicate buying a used beacon for one of...

Re: WTB - PI S/2 Transmitting Beacon
The beacon is just an optical trigger to signal the start/stop of a lap. It has no other effect on the data. Every car on track could use the same beacon if all were running the same data system, just like the transponder loop.

Re: WTB - PI S/2 Transmitting Beacon
Bob, I don't know how common the System 2 is in our region, but with most other systems, there is a pretty good chance on any given weekend that someone else has a beacon out on track, and there only needs to be one beacon of each brand for everyone's system to work. I know with my AIM I rarely need...
