Re: June Sprints Tidbits
I was standing in Turn 5 during the race, so I didn't see what happened to Stout, but it wasn't Livermore. Stout was swapping positions 2-3-4 for most of the race with the Jennerjahns. Livermore was a ways back from them.

Re: Some possible rules questions
For me, the disc brakes would be welcome from a maintenance standpoint. Adjusting brakes would just be one less thing to think about. The transmission FST uses is still a swingarm, so that's not much different other than they have one set of spec gear ratios (it's basically a FV Long Box). Not sure ...

Re: Possible way to reach out to a younger audience
A clapped out, obsolete, and generally uncompetitive FC that needs a total overhaul can be bought for less what a really good National level FV costs, but you can buy a clapped out, obsolete, and generally uncompetive FV that needs a total overhaul for under $3000, so let's compare "apples to a...

Re: Possible way to reach out to a younger audience
Ever been to a kart race? The ones I've been to had a sh*t-ton of disposable income being expended on youth, if not necessarily by them. Plus, a successful organization will market to all population segments to balance short, medium and long term growth potential.

That sounds like good advice! My car weighed in at 1054 post-race at Road America, so I figure by the time I lose the 20 pounds I need to shed, we will be in pretty good shape--me and the car!

I believe by "horizonally" they are simply referring to the screen orientation of the iPhone, in other words, "sideways."

Re: Cool iPhone app
The accelerometers are built in to the iPhone case, so you definitely DO NOT want to attach it to the steering wheel, as you will get garbage data for the lateral accelerations! The dash would be the best place to mount it for visibility, and velcro is probably the best method because it helps to da...

My wife has an iPhone, but when I showed her that app she said, "There is no way I am going to let you velcro my iPhone into your race car."

Re: HANS vs. DEFENDER
A patent is worthless and filing it is a waste of time and money if a company is not prepared to defend it, so I'm not surprised by this. In fact, I'm surprised it took so long considering there were rumblings from the day the Defnder was shown at PRI last year. I do think the competition is good fo...

Re: Homologation papers question
You will need the homologation to get a log book. SCCA can replace it or issue a new one for a fee. A new one is $100 and the charge for replacement is $200. I see you have that car up on eBay.
Here's a link to the homologation info:

Re: Trans Am Weekend at BlueGrass Motorsports Park
According to a posting on Apexspeed by Eric from SCCA Enterprises, FRCCA is no longer part of this event, but supposedly has found a "better" date. Can anybody confirm that? Of course, this could all be moot, as I understand the track is not really built yet. NASA just cancelled it's June ...

Re: Springs
Bathroom scale technique.... Of coarse you could collapse the spring only a 1/2" and use your math skills. Stay in the mid range of the scale for best results. Yeah, you could do that. Then you could put the spring on a real spring checker and realize that it's nowhere near even close to what ...

Re: Springs
You will get a much better result with the rate calulators than trying the bathroom scale. I'd like to see a photo of somebody trying to rate a 250 lb/inch 2.5 OD coilover spring (for example) past its first inch of travel on a bathroom scale!

I guess airport policies vary widely. At my local GA airport, the fuel guy helped me carry my jugs through the lobby, filled them up, and helped me carry them back to the truck!

Re: Springs
The easiest way to rate a spring is to put it on a spring rate checker. Or you can take some measurements and calculate it. There a good explanation at this link under How to Rate Coil Springs:

Re: HP vrs Torque for Dummies
There are a lot of variables, and the "horsepower" vs. "torque" argument is as old and contentious and "Ford vs. Chevy" or "tastes great vs. less filling," but my position has always been that given basically equal car variables, "horsepower wins races.&q...

Does the short rears allow you to get by with a Long box on a short box track or is the change in gearing too great for that?

Re: AIM Install Questions
?? It sounds like you are using a regular gauge sensor for the AIM dash? You can't to that. That depends on the gauge sensor he's trying to use. The AIM system can be calibrated to any 0-5V sensor using the Custom Sensor function. You have to either get the slope of the voltage curve from the manuf...

Re: AIM Install Questions
You do need the wheelspeed sensor to capture speed and distance, the accelerometers only capture change of direction and rate of acceleration (lateral and longitudinal) and deceleration. Most people will use a front speed wheel sensor with the AIM systems, regardless of car type because it will be l...

Re: Brake shoe break-in
What kind of shoe life do you get out of the Carbotechs? Anybody know which if Carbotech's compounds they use? I have used their XP10s on my Mustang, so I'm famililar with the characteristics of that compound. I liked them, but they didn't give good pad life so I switched to Hawks. I wish Hawk made ...

Thanks for the tips. I'm going to try the sand paper route and see if I can salvage these pads. I'd like to have some confidence that I am getting the stock pads working properly before I jump to the Carbotechs. I assume these are a carbon/metallic compound that needs to be bedded in to form a trans...
