Brake shoe break-in
I think I glazed my new brakes shoes this weekend at my first event with the car, which lead to all sorts of problems. To avoid this in the future, can anyone suggest the proper way to break in a new set, especially given the limited track time at events? The event I'm hoping to run next weekend doe...

Re: How to mount a drum brake wheel speed sensor
I'm a little confused trying to visualize your arrangements, but hopefully I'll have a chance to see some in person at upcoming events. It may be moot if I decide to upgrade to a GPS logger, although there is still some advantage to running an analog wheel speed sensor even with GPS, so I may try to...

Re: How to mount a drum brake wheel speed sensor
I'm more interested in the location on the drum and backing plate where people are mounting them, particularly to the drum. Are you using the inner hub or the outer edge of the drum to mount the magnet?

How to mount a drum brake wheel speed sensor
Anyone have any tips on mounting a magnetic wheel speed sensor to a FV front drum brake? I'm talking about the kind that the AIM data loggers use.

If you ever decide to get back into racing, I have a perfect class for you: NASA's Camaro-Mustang Challenge. Each of your major concerns is a non-issue and you can build and race a car in the class for equal or less money than a FV. I know, because I raced CMC for the past five years, but this year ...

Re: Best airport for the Runoffs?
Mitchell is the closest big commercial airport; it's about 75 miles from the track. Green Bay is only about 50 miles, but might be less convenient to get a connection into.

You mentioned a droop rod, so I am assuming it's zero roll. If not, then disregard. If it is zero roll, here's how I setup my XTC according to the setup manual: 1. Remove shock and reverse the stop on the droop rod so it supports the bellcranks and set your static shock mounting distance. This basic...

Anyone know if you can attend the SCCA school at BHF for track time only? I'm doing this at the Council school the prior weekend to sort out myself and the new car, not to get licensed since I already have one. But it couldn't hurt to go through school for the second, third or fourth time I guess!

Re: Trans Am Weekend at BlueGrass Motorsports Park
It's outside Cinci, just over 400 miles from here in Milwaukee. I'm on the fence too, mainly because of the distance. I've committed myself to staying within a 100-mile radius of home this season, but that looks like it could be an interesting event.

Re: April Fastrack--Oil Sumps
My question is what is the threshhold burden of proof that needs to be met. Let's say 100 (or 200 or 300 or 5, 10 or 50) of us write in asking for a sump rule change. Does that consititute demonstration of a need?

Re: April Fastrack--Oil Sumps
I'd like to see the sump rule opened up to at least allow the larger wet sumps that have been discussed in other threads. As for dry sumps, I'd be open to that too as long as they are not able to create a power advantage. The effect of pulling significant crankcase vacuum (10-15 in/Hg) on ring seal ...

April Fastrack--Oil Sumps
Anybody else find it ironic that in the same issue the CRB rejects a letter requesting a rule change to open up the oil sump, saying "there is no demonstrated need," they are asking for input on allowing dry sumps for FVs? http://www.scca.com/documents/Fastrack/09/04/09-fastrack-april-club...

Re: Break In Oil Help
I agree with this and it's exactly what I did with the engine in the car I bought over the winter. In my case it had a Veetech engine, so in addition to having it checked out and tuned up by Jim, he looked up the old records from the previous owner, flowed the carb and intake, and provided an invalu...

Re: Stupid License Question
You could ask for a waiver based on your racing experience from the division licensing chief. If you have limited experience, they are probably going to want you to follow the standard process, which is four regionals. If you really want to get those in prior to the Sprints, you may have to travel o...

Re: Help about intake debate for us novices
Matt Most Vee racers might think their manifolds are competitive, but the FACT is they are down 2-3 HP from the front runners. This is what I have observerd form the majority of my customers. New rules will just insure that you will never get to a level playing field. Whatever you say, but I sure d...

Re: Help about intake debate for us novices
It has been my experience that most FV racers are more interested in having their current competitive parts remain competitive, than spend money and more money in pursuit of the holy grail of manifolds. This is why I'm in support of the recent revision and the proposal for more restrictions. I may ...

Re: Need more input on the FV manifold rules
If you send an email to the CRB, you will receive an automated reply back stating your letter will be forwarded to the appropriate advisory committee. I assume that is why the committee asked us to send our letters to the CRB in the first place.

Re: Help about intake debate for us novices
Unfortunately the biggest problem with the idea is that nobody want to go backwards in performance terms. The class has already evolved too far for that. What I think could work is to open up the rules in such a way that aftermarket manifolds flowing equal or better than the current top custom manif...

Re: Need more input on the FV manifold rules
SteveO confirmed my suspicions that the new suggestions have not gone to the SCCA/CRB and as such, comments to the CRB would be inappropriate at this time for the NEW suggestions. From the very first post in this thread: 6. Most importantly, we want as many FV drivers/owners as possible to send the...

Does the manifold maker on the committee recuse himself from drafting rules on manifolds that are submitted to the CRB, or does that consititute "getting input on potential parts shortages, flow numbers, or most anything else in that vein, I certainly would pay a lot of attention to those peopl...
