Re: Need more input on the FV manifold rules
Who said a damn thing about engine builders not being allowed to make public comments? It's the non-disclosed behind the scenes scheming and dealing that's "Washington-like." Comment all you want, but when the rules makers put more stock in the pros than the regular joes, there's a problem...

Re: Need more input on the FV manifold rules
A number years ago the manifold rule was revised to specify where the manifold would be measured. The reason for this was to eliminate the difficulty of measuring the diameter of the horizontal tubeat the bends. IT was not intended to allow additional modifications. Since then, some manifold prepar...

Re: Trans Am Weekend at BlueGrass Motorsports Park
Thanks for the replies. It looks like the FRCCA will fill the spot (we of course can participate.) Following the threads here regarding promoting the class, I thought that a Pro venue invite to a spectator event at a new track with a lot of totally new visibilty would excite those that wanted to bu...

Re: Need more input on the FV manifold rules
I'm not clear on what the board is trying to achieve with the manifold rules. The horse is already out of the barn and $2000 manifolds are already not only legal, they are essential if you want to be a front runner. It doesn't appear that the proposal is going to change that. If cost containment is ...

Re: wanted amb transponder
The useful thing about Mylaps is that it captures and displays the lap time from EVERY lap you ran during the event, not just the last and best laps, which is what you usually get on the posted T&S sheets, so if you don't have a data logger or other device to capture those laps, you may never ha...

Re: wanted amb transponder
It's relatively new, but it actually replaces an earlier policy where they flat out refused to re-register a Mylaps account for a second hand transponder. This fee only applies to transferring a used transponder. Mylaps is still free for the original purchaser.

Re: wanted amb transponder
Just to clarify that, the $50 applies to activating a new Mylaps account. The transponder will still work to record your lap times at the track, but you won't be able to go in and review all your session times without registering with Mylaps, so that will cost you the extra $50. Considering that, I'...

Re: VW Hub Caps
A Hub Cap is specifically defined in the GCR as being a "decorative" cover, so if it has an aerodynamic purpose, which is functional, a Moon disc should be legal since it is not expressly prohibited in the FV rules like it is in the FF rules. I think they would look cool on my XTC! Ooops, ...

Re: Why is the Sky Blue?
It just dawned on me that in three pages, no one has answered the man's question. How rude. So here: The blue color of the sky is due to Rayleigh scattering. As light moves through the atmosphere, most of the longer wavelengths pass straight through. Little of the red, orange and yellow light is aff...

Re: SCCA license fees
I think you will have a hard time finding any sanctioning body that requires a physical exam for issuing a license that does not require an annual exam over the age of 60. That's a pretty standard requirement for most groups, not just SCCA. It doesn't take months or even weeks for a license to be is...

Sure it's ambiguous, but don't be surprised that when the rule finally gets published in black and white that it turns out the speed limit really was 70mph the whole time.hardingfv32-1 wrote: 70, 75, 80 mph, how was I to know that the CHP had decided to give out tickets at 85.

Re: New manifold rules in GCR
HOW would I know it was NOT ALLOWED to go to 1.140. Where in the rules does it say you can do that? The first manifold that showed up at a National race looking like a snake that swallowed a rat should have been bounced for not passing the most obvious eyeball inspection. Shame on the people respon...

Re: New manifold rules in GCR
I understand that prior to this proposal, there was nothing clearly stated in the rules regarding the maximum legal diameter of the curved tubing of the VERTICAL legs of the manifold between the curve and the flange. But what I don't understand is how the supposed "ambiguity" resulting fro...

Re: Budget racing
I see all over the place that formula vee is diminishing. IMO a lot of it has to do with the cost of running one. Right at this moment I have no hopes in being very competitive against other vee's due to the money issue's, and that is why I will be only autocrossing mine for now. Road racing is exp...

If you're looking for inexpensive safety gear, try G-Force or Racequip/Safequip, among many others. There is plenty of cheap racing gear on the market aimed mainly at the circle track market, but most of the gear is interchangeable for road racing. Get a Speedway Motors catalog if you don't have one.

I've run with NASA since 2003. NASA understands that the vast majority of young people who are attracted to high performance driving start out in an HPDE program with their daily driver street car, then gradually modify it as they progress through the program. Most of the people I have raced with in...

Re: Why is the Sky Blue?
I've raced on a spec tire in a sedan class for five seasons. Racing on a spec tire is only as good as the tire choice. Generally speaking, in order for it to really work you need a tire that, to quote Lou Gilotti, "sucks, but sucks the same for a long time!" In other words, it must be a ti...

Re: Why is the Sky Blue?
If a restrictor plate was ever to be implemented, what are the odds the level of CFM restriction would be set at that of truly "stock" carbs and intakes, or even rolled back to a level that negated the performance of the vast majority of legal parts currently being raced? Zero. More likely...

Re: Why is the Sky Blue?
Ask a NASCAR engine builder if restrictor plates have made engine development any simpler or cheaper. As a fellow FV rookie (but not a rookie to racing) I agree in principle with what you are saying, but racers will always find a way to apply time, money, and talent to find an "unfair&quo...

Re: Extended sump question
I think if you were to use the large slimline type sump you would do some different windage design. Actually a tube around the hole at the standard sump pickup with a hole at the back of the tube could optimize keeping most of the oil in the lower center section. (In corners and under braking.) A l...
