Re: Where is Michael
I'm still here! After eating, breathing, sleeping, and sometimes even bleeding FV's for the past 15 years or so, I was getting burnt out the last season or two. Before Sonoma last year I had already made up my mind that I was going to take some time off, take a break and maybe catch up on some of th...

Re: Steve's Runoffs
Interesting report Steve, I too found it difficult at Sonoma to manage a car that tends to be loose. It was the first time I can remember where I was trying to change how loose the car was. The short sessions we ended up with certainly didn't help. I was torn on how much to try to get out of the car...

Gary,
We had some good races at Midohio. We were haulin' at that one in your link. The weather was perfect and we did lap after lap under the track record. Good times for sure! Wish you still had a vee!

Re: Machined Valve Guide Bosses
Can someone please explain to me why machining the valve guide bosses is going to be allowed to continue and be legal based on the need to not disqualify those who had already done this, when several years ago it was no big deal to change the rules to disallow wheel covers which even more clearly fi...

Re: Caldwell D13 trailing arms.
Bruce,
We have made numerous D-13 trailing arms over the years. We supplied DRE and LRE with many of those back in the day. If you're interested in a set and some spares, give my dad Al a call.

Re: Leading arm attachment
John's comment is spot on. The only real issue with a high motion ratio (short shock travel) is getting a shock to work well in that situation. Other then that, i don't think it's possible to say a higher or lower motion ratio is better. What really matters is what the motion ratio does throughout t...

Re: Runoffs Help please.
Brian - I believe the headings are as follows: S1 and S1 TM are the speeds and time through section 1. I beleive that is the speed trap near the start / finsh line. S2 TM is the time from S1 to S3, which I think is the S/F line to the S3 speed trap a little before the braking zone into 5. S3 and S3 ...

Multiple Runoffs Pole Winning Motor
I am selling the engine that I have used to claim several recent runoffs poles, including last year, 2012. This is a VERY strong, no excuses engine. In addition to the runoffs history, it has several recent June Sprints wins and countless nationals / majors victories. I used this motor in 2012 to br...

Re: Tapered brake shoe wear
I've had the problem with 2 different compound brake shoes. The first time was about 3 years ago. I put a new set of shoes in and thye wore fine. I haven't changed anything else related - same backing plate, same drum, same cylinder, adjuster, springs, ect...then all of a sudden this last set did it...

Tapered brake shoe wear
This past weekend I experienced again something that has happened to me once before - I get a massive taper worn into the front brake shoes. The inside edge (against the backing plate) got wore almost to the liner, while the outside edge looks almost untouched. The top shoe more then the lower, but ...

Re: April Minutes
Jim and Brian have made me realize what has me unhappy with the committees handeling of the bodywork change. The committee was not put in place to be the policing agency of our class, nor was it intended to be a jury to decide if the rules are adequate as written in the GCR. SCCA has had a procedure...

Re: April Minutes
Steve - I understand and I'm in favor of the head surround addition to the rules, as well as the clarification on the body work width. I was just surprised to see the committee act so quickly on this topic, when for other issues like minimum weight, spec tires, manifolds, ect. there was much more co...

Re: April Minutes
I think its great that the SCCA people in power are taking strong steps to stop another manifold-type situation where a few selfish people are willing to throw the FV class under the bus by taking advantage of creative rule interpretations. If a rule does not adequately define parameters that are g...

Re: April Minutes
The crb better send that out for member input. Im already very unhappy this got freight trained through. How can something like a major rules change not be sent out for member approval?? This whole deal stinks. The committee seriously overstepped their powers on this one.

Re: Hoosier tire bead seating?
Brian's right - the newer constuction hoosier's take some serious effort to mount. After they have been run once or twice it's not so bad, but new they can be a real pain. Napa sells some good old fashioned rubber lube that works well. Once every few years I get my wheels sand blasted, then re-paint...

Re: Was Brad's Brundage Cup block OK?
Good question and one I had a discussion about with a fellow competitor a few days ago. I think more important then the "number of moves" is the severity of the moves or the result of the moves. Watch the video on speedcasttv.com from the 2012 runoffs where Roger and I were racing to the l...

They wouldn't "woe the car down" in the time/space I needed at the end of the long straight at COTA. I changed to the old CT compound and it was night and day better... Is it possible that the older shoes just fit the drums better and had more contact area vs. the new shoes that didn't ha...

"new" carbotech shoes
Can anyone who has run some early races and tried the new replacement material from Carbotech provide some feedback? Any direct comparisons made? (Old shoes Vs. New shoes back to back, assuming proper drum fit on each)
Thanks
