Solo vee status?
Hi, I used to run solo vee as FM in the late 90s-mid 2000s and was active on this forum. Sold my D-13 in '09 due to inheriting a classic car but never had a lot of passion in that arena. I'm thinking about selling it and getting back into solo & club racing (just regional stuff for fun). I was t...

FS: Light FV Trailer
A great deal on this light trailer designed for small race cars but can easily be used for other purposes - Located in Columbia, South Carolina (Irmo to be specific) - New truck tires (not the wimpy trailer tire type), lights & wiring - New 2x8 wooden skids (car tires sit on these) - Solid truck...

Re: solo vee novice
Sounds like you have stock gears. I also was never able to get the 3-2 gear change to work with any regularity - an ongoing frustration that leaves you hopelessly under-rpm pulling out of slow corners in 3rd loosing gobs of time. Some say they have it working so I suppose it is possible but I'm sure...

Re: solo vee novice
Are you running short 3rd-4th gears or making do with stock vw ratios and 2-3. I've not heard of anyone being nationally successful with stock ratios. If you have not gone to a short 3-4 setup I'd look in that direction (as a compliment to your added HP).

Re: Advice and opinions welcome
Hi, I put Diamond wheels on my D-13 for autocross. The clearance is tight in the rear to the trailing arms so I used stock VW bug wheel backspace which seemed to work just fine (both front and rear). I don't have that measurement handy but you can probably find it with Google. Never tried disc brake...

Re: WTB !3" Wide Five Pattern Wheels
Hi, I have a set of 13" Diamond steel wide-5 wheels for auto-x that I can sell you. Heavier than aluminum but much cheaper. If I remember correctly the rears are 8" wide and fronts are 7" but I need to verify. They come with old but safe Hoosier R25 7.5"w fronts and 9" rears...

That looks just like the shifter on a late 60's Autodynamics 'Deserter GS' that my dad built.

Re: brakes!
Double check that you have the correct size wheel cylinders in the front. I had a similar experience after tearing down both the front and rears and put them back together. I spent $$ I didn't have to on new brake lines and consternated over it for a while before I figured out that I had put my fron...

Re: Caldwell D13 rear suspension question
The uprights have bushings that go inside them and a captive washer over the whole deal at the end of the bolt. Dietmar has helped me with new bushings in the past, you may want to drop him a line (see add at the top of the page).

Re: FV Racing Sim Development
Thanks, thats a start! A curve would be ideal - you basically re-create the curve in modeling software that converts it to the datapoints of the entire curve. It uses crank HP and Tq, there are other factors for parasitic losses from things like transmission, turbo impeller inertia etc. There are va...

Re: FV Racing Sim Development
I downloaded this FV mod for rFactor a couple of weeks ago and have been having fun with it. The link for the mod has expired and I can't find any other info on it - does anyone know if it has been further developed/updated? The mod comes with 3 flavors of FV - Canadian, SCCA and South African. I'm ...

Pics & $price?
Thanks,
Rich

Re: Battery size/capacity for Solo?
I started with a 375cca lawn tractor battery (sears) then switched to a 17ah Panasonic Gel Cell from SR. I never had any trouble with power from either and both last multiple seasons. I’ve not had to use an extra battery or jumper pack even though I start and kill the engine quite a bit while on l...
