D-13 body molds
I have sold the car and now have left a set of body molds for a D-13. I have the main body section and engine cover. Sorry, no nose. I also have a VW engine stand on rollers in excellent shape. Best offer for both. Located in West Los Angeles. Sorry but I'm not shipping these. I may be able to deliv...

SOLD - D-13 for sale
I've completed the restoration and run a couple of events but I just can't coordinate my work schedule with the available track dates and the car is just sitting. It's killing me that it is parked in the garage and I'd like to see it back on the track in good hands. This is a 1972 D-13 (SCCA VIN 19-...

Re: D-13 Body Mold
Mark, It's a two piece mold, slit down the middle. I would pick up 20-30 C-clamps from Harbor Freight and assemble it, using filler in the seam. If done with a little care, you will produce a very nice panel. It's been some years since I popped a panel but the process doesn't change. Use fresh mater...

spark plug question
I notice that the NGK BP7HS plugs have a slightly longer electrode than the B7HS. Which is the colder plug? Is there any effective difference in performance between the two?

Re: "Jamar" Shifters
I know what you mean about the "fit" issue with rod ends. I use a pair of 1/2" id rod ends as shift rod guides. I picked up some 1/2" od chromalloy tubing, assuming that it was the DOM tubing that I had requested (ie, seamless and uniform in dimension). Of course, when it didn't ...

Re: Clutch lever
I bent the arm this afternoon and re-installed everything. The fits all look good. Since the arm is forged steel, as long as you get it cherry red over an inch or so on all sides, you can pretty much bend it into a pretzel. You then want to normalize it by heating most of the rest of the narrow part...

Has anyone tried this stuff? it sounds like a simple material for forming scoops and ducting.

Clutch lever
I have just installed a new set of headers on my D-13 and have one "proximity" issue to resolve. The #2 pipe comes up very close to the top of the clutch lever. Can I remove the lever, heat it and bend it safely? I only need about 3/8 of an inch inboard to make it clear. I seem to be havin...

Carburetor position
I have seen several cars with the carb mounted with the accelerator pump facing aft. Is this just a packaging strategy, is there some performance advantage or is it just more "black magic"? Simply curious.

WTB - Exhaust for D-13
I am looking for a serviceable exhaust system for my D-13. The engine still has 371 heads on it (until the winter rebuild). The present system (over-the-top) is a home-built one by a previous owner and doesn't allow for the use of a stock oil cooler location. It also has 1 3/8 primary tubes. I would...

VDO tach problem
My tach has bitten the dust. Is it worth opening it up? I got a quote of $230 to troubleshoot it today from a local speedo shop. A new one is around $120-130. Anyone have a used one?

Refinishing rear springs
I want to go back to my old 2 1/4x10 springs. They are looking kind of grungy (after all, they are over 35 yrs old). They test at 120#/inch for the first two inches of travel so they should still be usable. What is the best way to refinish them? Can I have them sandblasted or should they be tanked? ...

Re: D-13 floorpan question
Thanks. I'll try it tomorrow. It also occurred to me that another way to establish some curvature is to make a series of grooves in the top of the aluminum by running a beading tool (for screen window beading) against a straight edge along the length of the floorpan. if this were done in, say, 1/2-3...

D-13 floorpan question
In the course of rebuilding the car, I installed a new floorpan. I used the old one as a template. I couldn't come up with an effective way to curve the outer sides to fit the upper body but figured that I could always tap them up with a rubber mallet against the main rails once riveted in place. As...

D'Fender installation
I recently picked up a new Bell M4 helmet. It came pre-drilled for mounting the retainers for a HANS device. I have a D'Fender restraint. Can these points be used for the D'Fender retainers? They are off by a little from the mounting instructions for my device but I don't know if it will make a subs...

transaxle vent
I am curious as to the conventional wisdom of venting the transaxle. We never seemed to do it when I was racing Vees back in the late '70s but I have noticed some cars that have vents over the years. The transaxle that I got with my car exhibits some seepage around the sideplates (it could simply ha...
