Re: Soft Suspensions
Tell you what Brian, why don't you do an easy experiment? Take it to the limit. Replace all three shocks with turnbuckles, set your ride heights and cambers the way you want and go out and drive the thing. I suspect you'd find that even your billiard table smooth tracks would suddenly seem incredibl...

Re: Electric fuel pumps.
It's sort of a no brainer. <g> We have been using them on FST cars for 5 years. I don't know of any failures. They provide for immediate starts, real simple fuel checks when required, very easy to drain the cell of old fuel and they cost about 5 ot 10 more than a VW mechanical pump. They proper mod...

Re: Problem with Carbotech shoes install
Greg's probably right on the adjusters being the problem. Many suppliers only stock the so called "long" shoes which are to be used with the later, beveled/slanted adjusters. You can order the "short" shoes if you really want/need them, but they will take a bit longer to get. The...

Re: Questions for SCCA FV Survey
On this go around, we are being limited to about 4 questions that we need to submit today. They will all be on manifold issues.
If you want to start a list of other issues for a later survey. Great idea indeed.

Re: My letter about the FV spec intake
Ray, Sorry for the delay. The reality is that the meeting is still going on via e-mails  We are intending to request feedback from the whole FV community before we go too far. The e-mail response to the Registry inquiry was well over 50% in favor of continuing development of a spec. manifold. ...

Re: My letter about the FV spec intake
Chris, I haven't seen that one in years. Brings back great Monty Memories! Steve, I actually figured you meant me but... I do think making it mandatory makes it MUCH easier to implement and overall much more effective at doing what *I* think is the point of the whole exercise: to help control costs....

Re: My letter about the FV spec intake
Hi Ray,
I've composed about 5 different responses here and erased them all before hitting submit.
I need to wait until after tomorrow night's committee meeting.
Sorry

Re: My letter about the FV spec intake
Bruce, When the Aussies went to the spec manifold, did they have to make any improvements/changes to carb, heads, etc.... Can you give us a bit more info if you have it, as to what other factors might need to be addressed with this proposed change and what additional debates this could lead to down...

Re: My letter about the FV spec intake
Jeremy beings up something that is pointed out every once and a while. He wants to compete on driver talent. Well, what about the great majority of us that do not have his driving talent. Why should we want to hang around if we cannot compete against his talent. Maybe we can use some other form of ...

Re: My letter about the FV spec intake
Brian, Maybe we should have just let the CRB make the decision for us back at the end of 2009 based on input from a few of their close contacts. Then ALL of your customers manifolds would have been ruled illegal for 2010: problem solved, move on. It sure would have been easy, not to mention very sel...

Re: My letter about the FV spec intake
2% of a typical FV engine is 1.25HP. I have yet to see that big of a spread in current manifolds taken from the same era. Meaning if I checked 10 Kochanski manifolds on my dyno, I would not expect to see more then .5 HP difference between them. What that means is there is the potential for the spec...

Bruce, You don't seem to need any prodding to post your opinion ;-) I admit to suggesting to Eric that he post his letter when we talked recently on the phone. As Steve Davis has stated, the off-line input to the committee has been quite strongly in favor of continuing our research/evaluation of a s...

Re: My letter about the FV spec intake
At this point with the very limited info available NO one has any idea what is possible.Brian So instead of discussing it rationally, lets dismiss the spec manifold out of hand, or based on the loudly and repeatedly proclaimed opinions of those with the most to lose if the game is changed? This man...

Re: January meeting
Pat, Right now, our manifolds are a significant limiter of our engine performance, thus the need to have a good one if you want to stay at the pointy end of the field. One of the goals of the Australian move to spec. manifolds was to take the manifold out of the performance equation as much as possi...

Re: January meeting
The analogy of the bat is not a good comparison, because the a bat is a stand alone item. The intake manifold works in conjunction with the rest of the engine. The supposed $450.00 cost of the spec manifold is not all that will be needed. The carb and heads will need to be reworked. They all will n...

Re: January meeting
Guys, There's been a misinterpretation of what the January minutes meant regarding the spec. manifold. We are not presuming that the membership is in favor of a spec. manifold. We are simply asking for feed back on our assumption as to the nature of the most desirable spec. manifold. That is, would ...

Re: January meeting
First a couple clarifications. All work with the Australian spec manifold was of a preliminary, cursory nature. No one person/shop had the manifold long enough to do any extensive evaluations or compare it's performance on multiple engines. We were more concerned with getting it to as many intereste...

Just to clarify. The tubing is actually 1.25 OD by approximately 1.125 ID throughout (down tube and cross tubes). All openings are nearly that same 1.125 ID (carb flange about 1.130, head ports about 1.125.). It is very robust to put it mildly. I weighs about 3 pounds (vs 1.5 pounds for a race prepp...

I second the above (again). Use cotton thread so the patches fall off if they burn. I've read that often the worst burns occur under the patches right through an intact suit . Frankly I don't see how we can be required to wear flammable patches, but we are. Just wear as few as possible and use cotto...
