Re: FV major rules changes over the last 46 years?
The fan shroud removal was as of the 1977 season. Also allowed for that year was an external oil filter. So there were two immediate advantages: The cooler was no longer trapped inside the shroud, which improved its efficiency immeasurably, and the extra oil capacity helped as well. Prior to this pe...

Re: Intro:
Welcome Andy! I think you've made a great choice. I have been out of active involvement for 30 years, but still love the class and the sport. Some things have changed over the decades, but the friendly cooperation has not. You can clearly see it is alive and well by reading this thread. It's only on...

Re: Runoffs practice tickler
The intent is that even the races would be treated as test sessions by Current Spec. Vees, so finishing position should not be an issue.[/quote] That reminds me of a story. Attending a regional race at Brainerd in May 1969, I moseyed over to the fence to watch Formula A, B, C, and Ford. I expected t...

Re: Age of Runoffs drivers
With regard to the aging of the sport, it is similar to something we see on the street all the time. Where are the twenty somethings driving around in Corvettes (the way they did in the 60's)? THEY DON'T EXIST. The simple fact is, they can't afford it. All the Corvettes are driven by white-haired ol...

Re: Runoffs practice tickler
 Admittedly, I've been out of the game for 30 years (Yes, I'm a dinosaur!), but holy crap! Why doesn't the SCCA treat the runoff qualifiers with some respect? After all, they're the top dogs, and it just seems to me that somebody vomited on the red carpet! I guess this truly is the sport of k...

Anything below 2:07, we may want to consider changing from pudding to concrete.

Re: Beach 5B Vees
My dad raced one in 1970, and then sold it to buy a Zink. Ours was purchased from Dick Reitz in St. Paul, MN. We raced in in the upper midwest. About 12 to 15 years ago, we heard from Hugh Kleinpeter (Royale Cars USA). He had the car and was restoring it. We sent him some info and photos. The car tu...

Re: Promoting Formula Vee
I'm rather late to the party, but I just wanted to throw my 2 cents into the discussion as regards the decline in the popularity of FV. Yes, it is probably true that complacency set in while the class was raging with 50 car fields. But it is impossible to have this discussion without mentioning the ...

Re: Road & Track FV Article - Look at this drawing!
Thanks, Steve, for getting the article out there. It was a fascinating stroll down memory lane. My father & I became involved in 1968, when the class was still pretty new. Of couse, Butch was already a wily veteran by then! We started with a Bobsy Vangaurd, then went to Kellison, Beach, and Zink...

Of COURSE it's in jest! I do not condone cheating in any form or fashion. It was just a light-hearted way of saying that you can never have too much power (as long as you're legal) -we can agree on that, can't we?

Re: Road & Track FV Article - Look at this drawing!
Obviously, the magazine is sold. Did SR Racing buy it? It looked like it might be them just by the moniker on ebay. If so, I wonder if copies of the Vee article might be made available to the teeming masses? Could make someone a few bucks, while feeding the need for the glorious history of our class...

Rene, The car is gorgeous. Let me add my voice to the chorus of approval over the original paint and bodywork. That is SO cool! My dad and I had a '69 Zink. I miss it, and hope to find one to buy and restore. The car is extremely driver friendly, don't you think? I noticed the side pods stop at the ...

Re: Kellison
The steering box is indeed the original design. I think Jim Kellison did that strictly for cosmetic reasons. The car is handsome. My dad bought a Kellison in the winter/spring of 1969. The kit was sort of a pain to get together, mostly because it was tricky to get the engine in. This car appears to ...

Re: How much engine is too much?
When the flag drops, you hit the throttle in third gear, and the axles strip the splines in the rear drums. That's too much power, but barely!

Boy, those sure look like Atlantics to me, with the exception of the car on the left. The key is tire width.
