Re: Goodyear tires
With no competition it is possible that Hoosier prices may rise. However, they have went up 4 to 6% every year for the last 10. So for sure you will see an increase. BTW, GY says they are "probably" going to get back in to FV tires as of last week when I talked to them. A little bit of eco...

Re: June Minutes
For those who mght not be as familiar with what the change in upper ring placement means: The gasses seal at the top ring grove. On a Vee, the cylinders are honed out to maximum to get max displacement. So while we compute the compression ratio using cylinder displacement vs. combustion chamber volu...

New Adjustable HANS available.
Atlanta, Ga. (July 19, 2012) – HANS® Performance Products, the inventors of the head and neck restraint, today announced the HANS Adjustable – a revolutionary new safety device. The HANS Adjustable, which meets the SFI Foundation’s Spec. 38.1 for head and neck restraints, enables all drivers to purc...

Re: Lightening axles
Steve is very correct. The only real reason to drop a couple lbs from your axles is to drop the overall weight of the car. (and a very slight decrease in unsprung weight) It is far easier (and probably cheaper) to drop 20 lbs with a Lithium Ion battery and/or a Hi-Torque starter. A couple lbs at the...

Re: June Minutes
You have had plenty of time to request a rule change but did not. And the committee did not? I was one of the people who thought the focus of the commitee on behalf of all FV drivers was their purpose. I COULD have written a rule and there would be a dozen other suggestions. So no reasonable concen...

Re: June Minutes
Jim, do you really think 2mm is "dimensionally identical" to 2.5mm when it comes to piston ring grooves? First of all, "dimesionally identical means nothing. There are NO P&C's "dimensionally identical." It was simply poor word usage in the GCR. Go back and read my post...

Re: June Minutes
If anyone agrees with the above comments, please petition the CRB for a rules CHANGE to allow 2mm ring grooves. Currently, according to the GCR, the Chinese pistons are NOT legal - they are not 'dimensionally identical' to VW (or KS) pistons - nor are they particularly close (in at least 2 dimensio...

Re: June Minutes
I know most of you (forum members) don't write letters to the CRB. I suggest you do if this goes to a vote. If the committee's suggested measurements are voted on, and it passes you have again raised the price of the FV engines. Chinese pitons are available and they are just as good as the prior KS,...

Re: Distributors
Exactly. It is a Chinese cast housing (duplicate of the Bosch 009), with the drop in Pertronix. If you have a Bosch 009, you would be better served to use the 009 and use a drop in Pertronix. The Chinese internals have done some poor press fittings on the shaft and you have to watch that you don't d...

Re: Making a Comback after 10 year retirement
Hello all I am pleased to say that I am going to return to formula vee racing after a 10 year hiatous. Ok, Glad your back. But you will need a new Hi-Torque starter and a Lithium Ion battery. http://www.sracing.com That will save you the 15 lbs you probably put on in the 10 years. :-) They failed t...

Re: case sealing
Don, Been using the Permatex Aviation stuff for 20 years. Never leaks. I also suspect your leak is at the oil pump and just migrating to the bottom of the case. When assembling we put a layer of the Permatex on both sides of the bottom of the case halves. (Only on one side above the crank.) Make sur...

Re: New Guy in Town - Fuel Cells
Pyrotch makes no "off the shelf" FV cells. If one of the "off the shelf" ATL or Fuel Safe cells work for you (ATL-FC150, or Fuel Safe CB400, etc, that is the most inexpensive way to go. http://sracing.com/Store/Safety/fuel_cells.htm However if you need a custom cell to fit your V...

Actually, we might expect a bit more. It has been 5 to 8% for the last 5+ years. That was mostly due to oil energy costs.

Re: Spec Tires
A monopoly is when a single firm produces a product, in this case a tire, that is unique and there is no substitute. You are correct in what you say, but what also should be included is that " where there are barriers to market entry." ( Large capital costs, legal issues, patents, etc.) T...

Re: May Minutes
So, if I understand, the ad hoc committee believes that 2.5 should be the rule and that we will have to take any 2.0 piston and re-grove it? Yet, ANY rings are allowed? Yes, I understand that I or anyone can write the board and ask to allow or disallow anything. Wasn't the adhoc commitee established...

Why? Currently any rings and spacers can be used now. Why add $ to the cost of the engine when not required?and requiring a nominal 2.5mm width for the top and second ring groove

Re: Nelson Ledges
True Steve... I think the late fee is unfair anyways. I know that they would like to have the info and $ sooner, but what is the cost to them when you are not sure of your possible attendance? A few minutes. Most people have jobs and can't always be sure that you can make an event. Things free up at...

New Guy in Town - Fuel Cells
As some of you may know, the owners of Pyrotech used to own ATL. They sold and signed a non-compete claus. The term on that non-compete is now over. Since we are Pyrotech retailers, I contacted them about getting my pricing on the approved cells. They are being VERY kind as they want the market back...

While you consider the HANS and/helmet : want to drop 12+ lbs off the car right now? Take a look at our Lithium Ion batteries. 2.1 lbs for 18AH. It's about 1/2 the size. No damage from sulfation. Retail $179. Take 10% off retail for the month of May. You will save another $5 in shipping alone. Enoug...

Re: Spec Tires
Brian is correct. And this is why I didn't support a spec tire for FV. It was really a "be careful what you ask for thing". I don't think we want to decrease the participation by tire companies, I don't want to pay any more to the SCCA for running the tests and or administration fees. I do...
