Re: Head and neck restraints
Thanks to all who answered for the great info. Just one more question. I am going to order the Pro Rage this week but also need new harness, do 3" shoulder belts fit or do I need to get 2"? Can't seem to find that listed anywhere. We have the wide belts in most of our cars and it works fi...

Re: Head and neck restraints
Hybrid Pro Rage products are awesome. The Hybrid allows me to fit in cars that the HANS would not. Much better for big guys with short necks in lay-down cars!

Re: Fiberglass bodywork
The best advice anyone could give you is STOP! Doing fibreglass is just nasty work. Those that like it are their own breed and have learned to do it effectively and efficiently after years of sucking fumes and taking cold showers (to wash off the glass particles). Most, who do it at their homes, wou...

Re: July Minutes
Special thanks to Brian for all the positive observations. Like Mark Twain once said, "the rumors of my death have been greatly exagerated." The target should be growth, not replacing 20% of those that leave every year. The only exaggerated FV decline commentary is from those in complete ...

Re: July Minutes
I've been involved in FV since '83 and have heard of the soon demise of the class every year. The reasons have not changed. This thought of converting to fst was why fst was developed. Why would FV a class that is everywhere in the country want to down size to a class that has limited representatio...

Re: July Minutes
Lots of talk on the other forum about promotion. FST has a marketable product suitable for promotion. I call it " the most affordable formula car class on the planet". If FV is to be promoted, it needs to be fixed. Spec tires and rules that keep out cheater parts like manifolds, wheel cove...

Re: July Minutes
You ran FST 06-08 did you run FV before and did you go back to FV What were the reasons you switched and or switched back? I ran FST and returned to FV. The FST rule package was awesome but the growth was too slow for me. I found a class that I could run for $500 per weekend, but I was spending $10...

Re: Just don't get it!
Whether FST is part of FV or another class, the collective pooling of Vees helps with race grouping, which was the initial thread topic. Unfortunately, to maintain good Vee race groupings, we need 4X as many cars in most of the country and 2X as many in our more healthy areas. Both classes need each...

Re: Just don't get it!
Probably the same way that FV was saved in Austrailia. If you consider the class to be a group of people, cars, and vendors, then the class is saved. If you consider the class to be a set of current rules, then the class could move on as a vintage or sub-class, and would not be saved. I have no opin...

Re: Just don't get it!
I'm not blasting Steve Davis. He is attempting to do something about the problem. I offered to run and financially support a control tire test program. I recently offered a $500 prize to SCCA FV racers who could beat our top Canadian racers on a proper tire. Once again, Smazzy shifts the thread from...

Re: Just don't get it!
Once again, the issue is: FV racers are being forced to race in Formula Alphabet in most of the country. This is dangerous and provides an unfulfilling experience for the FV Customer. Two things are happening in response. Steve Davis is aggressively informing other classes about the problems from th...

Re: Just don't get it!
Funnily enough, even though you and smsazzy are continuously butting heads, I'm not sure that your opinions are terribly different. I have a feeling that with some mediation and a couple of beers (strong ones), you'd both be working towards the same goal. You obviously have different approaches to ...

Re: Just don't get it!
[quote="smsazzy"]The process actually works very well. It is the same process all classes follow. FF allowing Honda power started with a letter. [quote] That was going to be my example of how to do it. It was a power play! A group of people had an idea, working to research and fine-tune th...

Re: Just don't get it!
Not surprisingly, the FV racers are withdrawing their entries. My interests as a FV enthusiast and SCCA member are in direct conflict. FV needs to fix itself. SCCA needs to fix itself. FV cannot wait for SCCA to fix it as SCCA has its own restructuring to worry about. FV racers need to select a con...

Re: Just don't get it!
This is why FV needs to be fixed. Notice to all drivers racing in the John Stim Memorial Race July 12-13 at Lime Rock. All group 1 cars will be moved to group 3 and group 1 will be eliminated. The new group 3 will run two additional laps. Group 2 will now be the first race group on track . The cars...

Re: Just don't get it!
Plus the tires are radials which are not legal in SCCA for Vees and many other non-DOT tire classes. Oh, and there is another reason to do nothing. We cannot reduce tire costs by 50, 60, 70, 80, 90%, because that might involve making the control tire a radial or DOT tire, and that would require ano...

Re: Just don't get it!
Yes we can bitch about tires till the cows come in but that is only about 1/4 to 1/3 of the cost of racing. Tire costs in F1200 are $300 every 2-3 years. What is that? 1-5% depending on the seriousness of the competitor. Low cost is what attracts the kids (and their parents) to F1200. Working class...

Re: Just don't get it!
You are so wrong. Playing into the SCCA system just ensures nothing ever gets accomplished. When a group of people agree on a philosophy, develop a good plan, organize a group of people to support it, and present it in a developed proposal, then there is a chance that something may get done. That is...

Re: Just don't get it!
Lots of under-25s running in F1200. Cost is the attraction. They cannot afford any other class with open wheels. Cost was what attracted me and my friends. It is what attracted many of the FV old-timers initially. They just don't remember it that way. With the current cars/tires/attitudes .... promo...

Re: Just don't get it!
"To do that, FV needs to clearly be the least expensive and most competitive formula car option." Huh? Since when was any other formula car less expensive than a vee? Craig, you've run other formula cars, were they any cheaper than Shirley? Doubt it. I hate it when someone complains about...
