Re: Zink Solo Vee questions
My Solo Vee came from it's previous owners with a Briggs & Stratton fuel tank screwed to the frame. I changed it out for a plastic 1-gallon junior dragster fuel cell.....

Re: 2011 Rule Change
Thanks for the clarification, Lynn. I have the bottom ones, and they use rubber gaskets under the flange just like the factory ones. I see from the picture that you posted that the EMPI-logo covers don't have a flange, and use a slotted gasket over the edge of the cover to make the seal. No wonder i...

Re: 2011 Rule Change
The F500 guys were really, really pissed. Funny how quickly they forget about the Finger Lakes Tour event a few months ago, where 67% of the snowmobiles present had to be towed from the course to impound due to mechanicals during their runs. And the EMPI style bolt ons with the rubber seals are ter...

Re: 2011 Rule Change
If someone can't make the stock valve covers with bails stay on their car and not leak then bolts aren't going to help them. My take based on Lynn's joke about leading arm suspensions was that the motivation for this "emergency" rule change was that someone oiled the course (possibly in L...

Re: YELLOW freight/Lost 2 Engines
i do find it interesting that they filed a police report today. They wont talk about why they would do that on there own Company. :?: As soon as I saw that your shipment made it's first stop in Elizabeth, I figured that it walked out the back door and was sold for scrap at $0.45/pound over in Jerse...

Re: Lime Rock Configuration
The track map above is missing all of the new construction, which I'm guessing is the reason for the original question. Here's the current version of that map: http://www.limerock.com/pdfs/LimeRockTrackMap_WallyWorld.pdf Unfortunately, I'm not involved with the racing side of my home region to know ...

Reverse lockout RFC
I just noticed in the 8/2010 Fastrack that SEB is looking for member comment about allowing reverse lockouts in Solo Vees. http://www.sebscca.com if you want to chime in.....

Finger Lakes National Tour
I just got home from Seneca a little while ago. One Vee out of 6 drivers in FM, and he finished 5th. :( http://scca.com/popup/raceresult.aspx?event=15169&file=1076 I talked with Todd Miller after impound. His car is a 1600 with dual carbs, but he has not built his engine out to the limits of the...

Re: Clutch won't stay adjusted
A properly driven solo vee with zero roll suspension on 9.75" wide R25B's probably should not be able to spin the tires. FWIW, my non-zero-roll Vee with no Z-bar was easily spinning 13' *wide* R25A's the day I was playing with a set of borrowed monster wheels. The camber shift when the rear sq...

Re: opening old case
When I had to pull a seized 1600 cylinder last year, I used the John Muir method. "Pull the cylinders off one by one. They will probably be stuck in the case and have to be persuaded off with a rubber mallet. Hit the fins straight on as pictured." The included picture shows the rubber mall...

Re: 600 cc MC engines in F Mod
I would think that if you or others feel that approval of this proposal could upset F Mod, a preemptive strike  to the MAC would be appropriate to let them know your feelings. Just my opinion and as I said in an earlier posting, I know how I'd handle it 8) . Are there any F-Mod drivers on the ...

Re: 600 cc MC engines in F Mod
For us, that means that if the BOD approves that recommendation this Fall, the 600 engine will automatically be permitted in the F500 chassis' in F Mod as a GCR legal engine in 2011. What are your thoughts on this development? My only thought is *what* 600 engine? I have not read the proposal, but ...

Re: "Jamar" Shifters
I know that our local dirt track parts store sells rod ends that have a extra 0.007" wider bore for steering column use. My concern is the steel-on-steel issue, which seems like a recipe for disaster. If they would have gone with a larger rod end and inserted a nylon bushing into the bore as a ...

Re: "Jamar" Shifters
My Solo Vee came from the last owner with the full Jamar shifter kit. Since I don't have any real seat time in a Vee without one, I can't say if it is better or worse. I did have an incident where I accidentally bumped the tail unloading from the trailer, and it rotated the assembly enough to make i...

Re: F500 mods
Hi Arthur, How's the weather up there? Typical late spring. Do you remember what it is like to have seasons? :P OK, other than hurricane, brush fire, and tourist seasons. Let's answer the easy one first: yes, roll bar padding would be necessary anywhere a helmet could touch the roll bar...

Re: F500 mods
In so many words, the GCR says that the chassis and all mechanical pieces forward of the roll bar (not wheels or suspension) must be covered by bodywork but the chassis can be of any design that has been homologated. However, the SIR does not require homologation papers, so that eliminates the usag...
Re: F500 mods
Also, I can't see the width, but those forward rollbar braces appear to need padding per the rules. Not for this particular co-driver, but for the other driver whose head needs to be within 6" of the roll hoop.....
Re: F500 mods
The cars we are talking about have the side pods and most of the impact protection. They are cutting out the body work. http://www.gotcone.com/pgallery/images/2010_autocross/05_29-05_30_blytheville_national_tour/img_2606.jpg I actually just had to take a protractor to this picture, to ensure that t...
Re: F500 mods
Here's another two pieces, from page 133: 4. The roll bar structure must meet the requirements of either Appendix C or Club Racing GCR 9.4 required by class rules. Roll cages are strongly recommended. “Specials” are required to have the roll bar extend at least two inches above the driver’s helmet i...
Re: F500 mods
From page 224 of the 2010 Solo rules: 2. F5 cars manufactured prior to January 1, 1990 need not comply with crushable structures as defined in Section E.7 of the current GCR/FCS. 8. F440 & F500 cars in FM are not required in Solo to have the sidepods now mandated by Club Racing if they were manu...
Re: F500 mods
Another voice told me that those mods were done by a BIG SCCA guy and they should be correct. The first thing to pop into my head when I read the above is this post from the F500 list from 2006: http://www.mail-archive.com/f500@f500.org/msg02115.html "Most of our time was spent writing the SV ...
