Re: New manifold rules in GCR
Will vee drivers wake up before the class is totally dead? I thought being the 3rd highest class in terms of national participation and being perennially among the highest attended classes at the runoffs meant we were doing something right???? The days of 45 car fields may be a thing of the past, b...

Re: Softer engine bearings
I lost a main bearing on a test day over labor day at HPT. Not sure exactly what happened, but it had plenty of oil and the temps were fine when it happened. Needed a rebuild anyway..... Changing the engine in 105 degree heat was a real peach too. In fact, Brian, Derek helped me - remember. Tell you...

not an easy answer because there are so many variables but the conventional wisdom says 53 to 58 with rare quotes about 60 or more.

Re: Talent Handicap
The problem with your dad passing down his speed is that you will never be as fast as him due to the speed inheritance tax. Much of the speed your dad worked hard to learn, pouring his blood sweat and tears into will now be taken by the redistribution system and given to those with inferior motors a...

Re: erratic engine
Replace your battery. I replace mine every year, as they are cheap and seem to go bad quite easily. (Especially if you use a small one for weight like I do) I had a cell short out and it would not rev past 5 grand. It would rev up just fine, until it reached and then it sounded like it was running o...

Re: Official Discussion Thread: SCCA Runoffs
The car has a bent front beam, broken steering arm, bent rear trailing arm, bent rear shock pushrod, dented valve cover, dented header, dented manifold, and some fiberglass damage. All in all, not too bad considering. I will have some video of the event shortly, once I get it converted to WMV format...

Just to clarify, Brian McCarthy worked countless hours to he...

Re: Battery Suggestions
I bought an odyssey from batterymart.com that works great.
I use the Odyssey PC310. A handful of other guys use it too. It works great. It is a little pricey at $159 but weighs about 5.9lbs and is relatively small. 5.5 X 3.5 X 4
They make a couple bigger ones if you prefer.

Re: Fitting in a car
I would have to say, go with a Crusader. I know guys as tall as 6'5" that fit well. I also know that Ian Sweeney has a very competitive one that has done well at the runoffs.

WANTED: Broken or non working Fan Shroud - PNW
I am hoping someone near the great state of Washington or Oregon has a fan shroud I can have/borrow. I am redesigning my rear body work and want to make sure I am legal. Let me know if you have one near and i will come pick it up.
If not, I will just make up a template to build around.
Thanks!

Re: egine will not stay running
I would recommend draining all the gas from your cell and fuel system. Start with new gas. Clean the entire system - fuel filter, carb, etc. Also, make sure you don't have a leak in your induction system. Start the engine and play with the throttle to make it run. Spray some WD40 at the base of the ...

FYI - That was with a short box.
Also, (Quick plug for the engine builder) it was an engine built by SR Racing.

Re: Data Acquisition
Actually, you do want wheel speed too. It is needed to assess what you are looking for as well. Plus, it shows you just what you gain in the draft (in front and behind) and it helps you know if you exited a turn before a straight better (speed at end of straight) Pulling higher G's through a corner ...

Re: Data Acquisition
I purchased an AIM MyChron XG LOG from SR Racing about a year and a half ago. I really like the system for the price. I am logging Oil Temp, Oil Pressure, Cylinder Head Temp (CHT), Steering Position Sensor (SPS), Throttle Position Sensor (TPS). Wheel Speed, Lat G's and Long G's. I too, have never un...
