Re: Need more input on the FV manifold rules
One of the nice things about the Internet is that it provides instant information to all who are interested, but at the same time it can lead to lots of misinformation -depending on how the information is interpreted. A group of guys get together once a month with an agenda that is determined by let...

Re: Caldwell D13 rear suspension question
The uprights that you are referring to take a brass bushing ( which I have in stock) and inside that bushing is a steel insert with a 1/2" hole. Due to wear inside and outside, these have to be replaced every few years. Washer between the frame and the trans mount, washer between the trans moun...

CS:
Try a 1 quart metal acetone, paint thinner, or paint stripper can found at most hardware stores. Rectangular with a flat bottom and easy to attach to the lower roll bar leg or the firewall.
Jay:
Unfortunately, what you have is a breather and will not qualify as a catch tank for FV.

Re: Font beam question
Check the PARTS section of this site- there is a complete beam listed for much less than it would cost to put one together.
You can also contact the suppliers at the top of the page for parts- much better source than Hot VW Magazine.

Re: Need help tuning
Trying to respond to your question is rather difficult. The car that you have is a Formula Vee, but the engine is not so I will venture some guesses. Why are the valves set at 8 and 12? VW sets their valves at .004 on all intakes and exhausts on the dual port heads. You did not say what the gap was ...

You are correct- the (street) cars with a 12v system have the voltage regulator under the back seat. That's why I asked Paul why he wanted to mount it on the generator.

Paul: I think I would have gone with option B since the 12 v gen is cheaper and you already are going to run the 12v battery. BUT, since you have what you have, why do you need to mount the regulator on top of the generator? It can be mounted on the firewall, inside the cockpit, on the fan shroud, e...

Jay: I have been following this tread since it started and have a few comments: Not sure who advised you to remove the front motor mount, but I believe it is necessary. Matter of fact, in your case, I KNOW it is necessary. You will NOT destroy an engine because of a front mount! Most cars have eithe...

Unless you had an internal failure ( rod bolt let go,etc) I would tend to agree with Jim.It is very rare to have a case failure.
Also ( again agreeing with Jim) - you do not want an aluminum case- they cost more!

Re: Softer engine bearings
Only problems that I have seen on the main bearing is that someone missed the locating hole and pinched the bearing . I did it once and fortunately caught it before completing the engine assembly after it was torqued. Still turned but something was not quite right. Steel backing on the mains can sti...

Re: Log book???
Can't get to Salem, but this might help. The number on the front of the log book is your roll bar number. The first two digits are the region of record. This is where the log book was issued. I doubt that someone welded over the numbers- they are usually a ways up on one of the legs on the roll bar,...

Re: Extended sump question
John: Going back as far as the 72 GCR (my oldest copy), the size limit has always been the same, as has the volume limit. Who is to know what their thinking was when they wrote these rules. I can only guess that they did not want sumps hanging under the frame rails. As for dimensional size, the firs...

Bill:
Whatever you chose, I would suggest an INNER pan that is separate from the floor pan ( which I assume you will attach to the lower frame rails). This way, if the pan is peeled back, the inner pan might keep the feet inside the car ( don't ask how I know).
Hope this helps

Re: Extended sump question
Guess my concern is that - IF the lower portion is larger than the mounting surface, and the flat area that has the drain is still larger than the lower circumference, then I would question the legality. Lot of $$$ to find out that it can not be used. You are correct in that a sump will help with th...

Re: Extended sump question
Took a look at the sump extension on e-bay. Very nice. How deep is this item?
On the down side: it is difficult to see the part that has the drainage hole and the bolt, but if this part of the sump extends beyond the original cover plate, then the sump is not SCCA legal.
