Re: July 2016 Minutes
I first have to say thank you to those in the outgoing FV Committee who elected to include me several years ago as a member. It’s been a great experience. As Bruce said about the founding committee, the outgoing committee was composed of folks all extremely dedicated to the class and its survival. T...

Re: New OFFICIAL FV AdHoc Committee Selected
Bruce, thanks for the post. I agree with Bruce. It would be good for the FV folks to interact with the new Official FV Committee more than in the past. The forums are a good place to discuss things, but the few folks who are kind enough to post hardly represent the interests of the FV community. Alt...

Re: FV Intake Manifold Rules Clarification July 2016
That idea has been brought up before. If we just measured internal volume then we could make the pipes shorter, and widen the pipes to meet the volume spec. Doing that would most likely flow more air - and certainly start another round of R&D as Brian M. suggested. John

Re: NEFV Championship Rounds 7 & 8 (Thompson)
Nick, thanks for posting this. Both the NEFV group (NorthEast Formula Vee - mostly the SCCA NER Region) and the Challenge Cup group put a huge effort into promoting each of their series, and are each perhaps the largest groups of their kind in the country. The two groups combined at Thompson is crea...

I see 22 Vees signed up now, and only five non-vees. You guys are going to have a great time. Wish I could be there.

FV Promotional Video at LA Film Festival
As many of you probably know who read the FV Ad Hoc Committee monthly meeting minutes, the FV Promotional Video that was produced was submitted to several film festivals. So far four film festivals have selected the film to be screened (showcased at the festival). The “Dances with Films” Festival in...

Re: The Racer's Expo 2016
I've posted this in several venues - but people and organizations who sponsor and help us deserve the attention. I’d like to add a few words of thanks… First, we thank the New England Region (NER) of the SCCA for hosting us at this event. Merging our two booths was excellent. In particular I’d like ...

Re: The Racer's Expo 2016
About Uncle Sam. They were inflating him in the room, but the ceiling was about 10' too low. I caught him in that picture as he was being deflated. It wasn't catching him at his peak! The funny thing is the guy who owned Uncle Sam said he could only find a source for and Uncle Sam balloon from China.

Everyone, we're all set for the show tomorrow and Saturday. Please come by and chat. The show is a great experience, and there are a lot of other booths to visit other than our own. It is truly a racer's show with many vendors. http://www.theracersexpo.com/ Here's the schedule. Friday: Setup 9:00 AM...

Bob's problem is not unique. This is the same problem I have when using Safari, so I have to use another browser as well for this site.bobs66440 wrote:Yes, thanks! The login issue appears to be a Safari browser on Mac thing. Other browsers work fine.

Bob,
You have several options in the Northeast as you can see from the above posts - all excellent options. Also check out http://nefv.org for SCCA Formula Vee in the Northeast. There is a contacts page to chat with folks in your area.

Re: Leading arm attachment
I guess I am assuming that some weight is transferred across via the spring. If there is an upward push on the outside tire doesn't that translate to a downward push on the inside tire. The spring is pushing on something to be resist compression. I go along with Brian H. on this, yes, definitely, s...

Re: Leading arm attachment
The spring has nothing to do with weight transfer. In zero roll resistance with our standard rear setup - yes. Chassis roll is just an indication of weight transfer but is not necessary for there to be weight transfer. Agreed. A gokart has weight transfer with no body roll for example. But, this is...

Re: Leading arm attachment
1) Simply stated the rear spring of zero roll rear suspension is only maintaining the rear ride height. 2) A) There is about 110 lb front and 160 lbs rear weight transfer on the average FV in a 1g corner. Zero roll resistance does not mean zero weight transfer. B) The front FV sway bar is a camber ...

Re: Leading arm attachment
Brian, I agree with everything you said, except "the higher the spring rate [for a monoshock], the more the transfer" In a zero roll resistance monoshock like we run in the back, the rear spring rate does not affect the rear weight transfer. That is why with this zero roll resistance monos...

Re: Leading arm attachment
I'm not sure it's an attempt to transfer weight - I would think the opposite. But, it depends on what you mean. So, let me say it differently, the zero roll resistance is an attempt to transfer the minimum weight possible, and if you can keep the tires at the optimum camber, you maximize grip. As yo...

Re: Leading arm attachment
2) Rear suspension jacking happens in all FV's... all cars using a swing arm suspension for that matter. That is not to say that the amount of jacking can not be controlled or limited. I would say that the CoG has nothing to do with jacking. I agree with that - CoG has nothing (or little) to do wit...

Re: Leading arm attachment
Zero roll resistance in the rear puts the anti-roll duties to the front tires, which helps balance the front to rear grip. But, with the swing axle rear end and the standard single shock design, it helps control the rear tire camber better during cornering.

Re: Leading arm attachment
I like this discussion. Much of the reason to find the right motion ratio dependents on what your shock tolerates. You want the shock to move enough that its function is not dominated by stiction for small wheel movements where you want the shock to work for you, but on the other extreme not so much...

Re: Leading arm attachment
With regards to one of Jim's original questions .. what is the purpose of the triangular structure that mounts at the tail with the heim joint? I believe its purpose is to control the fore/aft forces on the shock bell cranks that mount to the chassis. The pivots at the chassis have a SEVERE fore/af...

Re: Leading arm attachment
Not so nice..... Not a well thought out modification 2) You do not want to add side force to the already highly loaded outside wheel. It only reduces the freedom of the suspension to move while in the turn. This modification does not provide a contracting force (while in the corner) normally seem b...

Re: Leading arm attachment
I pretty much agree with Brian's response. I see two benefits in that location point on the rear axle. The first as Brian mentioned is that the side force on the axle can be reduced. This happens any time you move the attachment point out while keeping the suspension rod at the same angle, or keepin...
