Re: VeeFest'08

Craig, congratulations on the regional license. Great picture! To all the the VeeFest folks, I'm sorry I couldn't make it. I was really hoping to make the Sunday race - even expecting to actually make it, but as the day came closer, I knew it was going to be difficult or impossible. There are just n...

Re: Shirley Maclanes new home

I had the same problem. The numbers looked great on the dining room table, but when out in the sun/daylight it was another matter. Yes, adding the thin strip makes all the difference. Looks great!

Hmm, I know I read it last year in the GCR. But I just did a quick search and didn't find it.

Re: Carb Air Scoop?

Thanks. I dug through some of my pictures and found some of Protoforms with that shaped scoop. I saw the bottom half of the inlet - the part behind the helmet - blocked off. Is that typical?

Re: Carb Air Scoop?

Also, the Cd is less than 1 because you are "swallowing" the air, not deflecting it... If you "swallowed all the air, you would have zero boost. To achieve boost you will have pressure and thus aero drag. Actually, I believe that Chris is right on this one. With no scoop, you have a ...

Re: On board camera suggestions

My daughter used a Go-Pro when she rented for the recent Nelson Ledges school. The camera worked fine and we have a full 5 sessions of movies without a hitch. The frame rate is barely adequate for smooth movies, but overall the movies came out great. I've done a lot worse paying a lot more. The only...

Re: Trailer e-track install - best location for a FV?

My horror story is losing the car half off an open trailer. The straps were open hooks and when they came loose, they unbuckled. I will not use anything but hooks with locking clips now. I agree about the problem with the open hooks. I've had them come off for various reasons when I thought there w...

Re: Canopy

Jim, Something else to consider is to buy two, or just a plain 10 x 20 canopy. The plain ones are not easy-up, but they do a great job. One thing I like about my plain-jane 10 x 20 is that the top is the "silverized" looking type and absolutely no sun comes through. I've been under many ca...

Agreed! I had Dick crewing for me at last year's drivers school at NHIS. It was just as you said, all I had to worry about was driving and going to the classes. The car was always there waiting for me - no worries!

Re: Silver Wheel Color

What silver are you looking for specifically? The trick to matching is simple enough. Go to a NAPA store with a wheel you want to match, ask them for a paint chart for BASF, or whoever, find the chip that best matches... under it will be the OEM codes, which you can match up anywhere. Actually ther...

Guys, thanks for the responses. Clubford, yes, I think I'll stay away from the powder coating for now. Kevin, the link looks good. How do I go about choosing a color code for the silver wheel paint? I've been looking around and have found nothing so far. I'd like it to be close in case I don't got t...

Silver Wheel Color

I want to paint some rims the standard silver. I was wondering what people used that as close - Rust Oleum or Krylon. If you powder coated, do you have a powder manufacturer/color number?

Thanks, John

Re: LimeRock no longer a momentum track

Brian brings up a good point about motorcycles. They simply could not run them on the current (old) configuration - zero runoff room until you hit a wall or trees. Cars might spin to the inside, but bikes slide to the outside. The new configuration looks like it's possible, and they may have a new r...

Re: Road & Track FV Article - Look at this drawing!

[T]he text is printed on a gray background and separating the text from the page has been quite challenging. Steve, have you tried using optical character recognition (OCR) for that? It may not catch every character if the text is not sharp enough, but I've found it to do an impressive job in many ...

How To Make A Seat(?)

I'm interested in making a seat. A bead seat seems to be the most popular choice. I can add it inside my fiberglass shell (less beads needed and something to locate it), or without the shell. Is there any reference that anyone knows about that describes how to fit a seat? I'm interested in understan...

Re: Fuel testing rules

Steve, Thanks for the update. Do you know what the CRB hopes that this new rule will accomplish? I would like to think that there was some significant benefit or else there would be no rule change - of course that's often not the case when committees and special interests are involved. If the CRB re...
