Re: Gopro cameras
For many years I had a lipstick camera that recorded to a Sony digital tape recorder but the Sony unit developed an issue so I bought the Go Pro HD from SR Racing before the runoffs. I had some glitches with a stable mount and then getting it to record since I had it set in still mode but once it wa...

Re: Air compressor & generators
That is the air compressor I mentioned in the previous post and it is still holding the pressure. If you need to put a lot of pressure in the tire it might need to have it plugged in so it can run because 3 gallon tank might not be enough to fill the tire up when empty but it should work fine for yo...

Re: Air compressor & generators
We bought a generator at Northern Tool to supliment the motorhome generator for the runoffs and it is a nockoff of the Honda but way cheaper. It is a 3500 watt type and slightly noiser but still quieter than the others and was only I think $800. I have used an air tank for over thirty years but with...

Re: Steering box location
Actually this is an older style that you weld the arm to the box but I now make a steering arm by cutting off the old arm and welding on steel to make the new one so it is a bolt on application. I used to weld tabs on the spindle to stop it from going over center but Ray Carmody told me he uses long...

Re: Steering box location
There are some good reasons to do it this way but a some problems as well. I build my cars this way since it is much easier to get a tall person in the car since the tie rods are not in front of the pedals hence more room. You need to fabricate a steering arm which is no real problem and the other t...

Re: Rear Roll Resistance Never Needed
So Brian, If you are looking for an answer for why you can get your zero roll system to work I think John almost noticed it but as I was reading the latest posts this morning before I came to work I think I know what you might be doing but not how. If the spring that holds the chassis of the ground ...

Re: Rear Roll Resistance Never Needed
It is interesting following this post and hearing some competing discussions on droop limiters but if I am correct I think there is a rule requiring something to stop the axles from going positive and effectively rolling over causing the car to possibly flip/roll. Brian's approach in not using a dro...

Re: Rear Roll Resistance Never Needed
Like someone mentioned you absolutely must align the car with you in it or a simular amount of weight in the car and possibly in the same distribution. Since I do all of the work on my car I have 20lb peices of lead I position in the car to do the alignment. As for understeer, oversteer you should b...

Re: Official FV Discussion: SCCA Runoffs 2010
Damm, After seeing Stevan's post I went back and looked at the trap speeds and did find that I missed some. I think what caused the problem is I thought that 116's were the best and only noticed 117's by Perterson and myself. Sorry guys but there were better and I rechecked again after noticing Bruc...

Re: Official FV Discussion: SCCA Runoffs 2010
That is kinda of interesting info from the event. Brandon Peterson had the outright fastest trap speed for the week at 117.9055 during the race and I had the next fastest in Monday Qualifying at 117.6309 and we were the only ones to get into the 117's.

That and a bare block are nice to build cars with as well as using it for a tranny. I would keep it incase you have that unfortunate crash and damage a cse.

Re: Needle Bearing Front Beam Spacers
Greg, Without looking for the price of the bearings for the link pins I can only guess that since they are smaller than the ones for the sway bar spacer they are most likely cheaper as well. so $50 for bearings is probably way to much. You only need 4 of them and at probably $1-$1.50 each is not muc...

Re: Needle Bearing Front Beam Spacers
I agree with Brian H as the washers/shims used to space out the link pins is hardwhare and is free under the rules. If you don't think so then you better not be using more than the standard 8 washers/spacers that come with a stock beam, otherwise you are not setting it up in the stock configuration,...

Re: Needle Bearing Front Beam Spacers
They are thrust bearings that are mostly used in automatic transmissions and are dirt cheap. I think I got mine from MSC as well as the spacers and I think the bearings were about $1.50 and the washer around $.50 each. The biggest problem is turning down the spacer that used to fit there since the t...

Re: Link pin shims with angled bushings
Greg, I know, I just wanted to mention that I like my car loose since I am one of those that dislikes understeer. Brian, could I get more rear grip? I guess but like I just mentioned I prefer a loose car since it is faster to drive but you have to keep on top of it and don't get behind in the steeri...

Re: Link pin shims with angled bushings
It is my top left link pin also that keeps coming lose. I have been doing this for a long time and have my front end working very loose. I slightly back off each link pin so there is no binding and have done it this way for ever but never had a link pin move once the pinch bolt is tighned. The pin d...

Re: Link pin shims with angled bushings
Hey guys, I have a problem that I think I have had all year and didn't notice until mid summer, but one, just one link pin is backing itself loose while on the track. The other three are fine and maintain their adjustment. Anyone know why the one is moving? I did replace the link pin and pinch bolt ...

Re: Fuel Usage at the RunOffs
Ray, Like Stevan I don't remember about how much fuel I had left, (I was so pissed about the start) and I probably started with 4-4 1/2 gallons since I have a 5 gallon cell. 2 1/2 gallons is a normal national so if you can get all of the 3 1/2 gallons out of your cell you should be OK. You can alway...

Dave, We have only raced there maybe 4-5 times and I didn't go the last time and they didn't have a national last year but from what I remember it is a pretty easy track to drive. You can carry 4th gear thorough turn 1& 2 and downshift to 3rd for I think it is turn 3. Stay in third until you get...

Re: Lime Rock Configuration
Brian, If you don't slow down to much for turn 1 you can actually do the whole track in 4th and be competitive. One time I was there Gary Kittell has a problem with his tranny and couldn't shift so just stayed in 4th and after noticing it I tried it and it actually worked. You probably won't win a n...

I have had mine inside the frame over a hole in the steel belly pan since I bought it. Many years ago at VIR they said I had a weak signal but it worked fine everywhere else OK. At Topeaka the last year they said the same thing but over half of the class had the same problem and I found out other cl...
