Max RPM on straight

What's the max that folks see on a long straight (e.g. Roebling Road)? My Predator (long box - no draft) stopped at 5000. I seem to recall hitting 5500 at Nashville once but only got to 5000 last year.

Thanks,

Mike

I saw 6700 in the draft at California. 6400 without the draft.

I was afraid of that.
Now where did I put that engine crate?

I saw 6500 at roebling road drafting a SRF running a short box. you will go as fast as your car will go there. it is a good time
I was pulling 6300 no draft, and big thanks to Dave Carr at Autowerks for the motor. Roebling is a fast track.

FYI - That was with a short box.

Also, (Quick plug for the engine builder) it was an engine built by SR Racing.

Mine is SR built also but with a dozen or so TIme Trial events on it. I've rechecked timing, dwell, and valves so I don't think that's it and it'll pull to over 6500 in lower gears. Next plan is to check fuel and air filters and ???

Thanks, Mike

Mike, your profile isn't filled out, so I don't know who you are. Send me your name. I want to look at the dyno sheet on your engine and see what it looked like after the last rebuild.

Since you say the motor pulls to 6500 rpm in the lower gears, and you say you can't get over 5000 in the higher gears... it might be in your gears/transaxle. You might also want to consider checking your wheel bearings.

You also want to check your tach, Some are really far off. Mine's 300-400 RPM off at 6000. It may not answer why you're 1500 RPM shy in top gear, but it may be reading too low all the time and you may be beating up your engine by spinning it too fast in the lower gears.
