Portland, Oregon

Post by tommy911t »

Hello,

I recently acquired a racecar, a 1963 Viper Formula Vee. It's a beauty.

Also introduced myself to a few SOVERN racers at the Columbia River Classic on Sep 1st.

Any tips for getting a racing license for historic events on the west coast?

Any tips for getting seat time in the car? (Hill climbs/autox/airstrips?)

Learning about the formula, this car's history and practical knowledge has been exciting. Can't wait to carve some PIR laps!

Tommy:
From the pic and info provided , it looks like you have a good start.
A VW in the driveway so I assume you have some knowledge of the workings of a VW. You also are in Portland and have a race track .

I assume you got some valuable info from the SOVERN group. Also look up the SCCA group in your area for future events and get a license. Not sure if SVRA runs at Portland- I believe they do so check out their schedule.
You will need a physical for any of the above groups in addition to membership.
AutoX is a good way to test your skills but I have found that you need a sit up style of car to navigate the track.

There may be some folks from your area who check this site ( infrequently- unfortunately) and they may be better suited to give you some advice.
Welcome to FV .

Car looks nice. 1963 is the first year of FV I believe, so a 1963 car means it is certainly one of the oldest.

If you haven't already, download the book - https://www.formulavee.us/Bookfiles/Get ... la_Vee.pdf

Very useful for the novice and the veterans as well.
